Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is still waiting on a final answer from the NCAA regarding his request for a sixth year of eligibility, but he said the process is moving forward.

Chambliss revealed after the Rebels’ College Football Playoff quarterfinal victory over Georgia that his appeal remains under review, with a decision potentially coming soon. The waiver request was filed in November after the former Division II standout transferred to Ole Miss Rebels ahead of the 2025 season.

“The NCAA is closed right now. I’m pretty sure they open tomorrow. Hopefully, we’ll hear an answer soon,” Chambliss said Thursday via On3. “I’ve got people working on it. I’m not the one that’s working on it. My job right now is to focus on football and to focus on this team and to focus on being 1-0 in the next game.”

Chambliss spent four seasons at Ferris State Bulldogs, though he only appeared in games during two of those years, a key factor in his waiver appeal with the NCAA.

He opened the season as a backup at Ole Miss before taking over the starting role in Week 3 after Austin Simmons suffered an injury. Chambliss has remained the starter ever since and has played a central role in the Rebels’ postseason run.

Against Georgia, Chambliss completed 30-of-46 passes for 362 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. On the season, he has completed 66.4% of his throws for 3,660 yards and 21 touchdowns, with just three interceptions, cementing his importance to Ole Miss’ offense as his eligibility status remains unresolved.
