Young hunters in Ohio harvested 1,740 birds during the state's youth wild turkey hunt April 12-13, 2025.

The two-day season was open to hunters younger than 18. Participants had to be accompanied by a non-hunting adult, according to an ODNR Division of Wildlife news release.

Over the last three years, youth hunters have harvested an average of 1,571 turkeys during the youth weekends.

In 2024, youngsters bagged 1,785 wild turkeys during the youth hunt.

As of April 13, ODNR had issued 6,731 youth turkey permits, which may be used through the duration of the 2025 wild turkey hunting season.

The season limit is one bird, and only bearded turkey may be harvested.

A complete list of Ohio's hunting regulations is available online through the ODNR website.

When is Ohio's wild turkey season this year?

This year's regular turkey season for hunters of all ages is broken into two zones.

The largest area — the south zone — comprises 83 of Ohio's 88 counties, leaving out the northeastern counties of Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake and Trumbull.

Spring turkey season in the 83 southern counties begins April 19 and ends May 18.

For the five northeastern counties, the season runs May 3 to June 1.

Season dates in the northeast zone correspond with later turkey incubation in that region.

"Hunters are required to have a valid hunting license in addition to a spring turkey permit, unless exempted," ODNR noted.

Hunters must check their harvested turkeys in no later than 11:30 p.m. the day they are taken.

Game check, licenses, and permits are available on the HuntFish OH app, on the Ohio Wildlife Licensing System, or at a participating license agent. Game check can also be done by phone at 1-877-TAG-IT-OH (877-824-4864).
