NYSE temporarily suspends trading due to technical glitch

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/07/08/us-markets-stocks-idUSKCN0PI19Y20150708

Trading in all securities were halted on the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday following earlier reports of technical difficulties, although NYSE-listed issues was still trading on other exchanges.

After the halt, U.S. stocks extended their losses, but in low volumes, with the S&P 500 hitting a session low and the Dow Jones Industrial Average and Nasdaq both falling more than 1 percent.

"It's under control. We're just waiting for word. There's no sign of panic at all," Mark Otto of J. Streicher & Co in New York said from the NYSE floor.

"We're waiting to hear word on if there's going to be a reopening, and when it is or any more details."

U.S. markets were in the red even before the halt, which started just after 11:30 a.m. ET, as the slide in Chinese markets spurred concerns over its impact on global economic growth.

Beijing unveiled yet another battery of measures to arrest the sell-off in shares and the securities regulator warned of "panic sentiment" gripping investors in the world's second-largest economy.

Yeah, nothing suspicious about the timing at all. Nothing to see here. These aren't the droids you're looking for. :help:

Its all a bit too coincidental for me. NYSE, Wall Street Journal, United, come on now. And the media was going overboard to say everything's fine, just a glitch, bla bla. Maybe some tech person can explain this all to us.

Coincidence? Hah.

Wave of Chinese firms halt stock trading to avoid turmoil

Jul 9, 6:39 AM (ET)

By KELVIN CHAN

HONG KONG (AP) — Faced with a stomach-turning slide in share prices, many Chinese companies are taking matters into their own hands with a tactic that experts say is bound to backfire: they're pressing the pause button.

About half of the 2,800 stocks on mainland Chinese markets have been suspended from trading as companies attempt to stem further losses by sitting out the market upheaval.

The trading halts appear to be separate from the flurry of measures rolled out by Beijing over the past week, as the country's communist leaders made increasingly desperate attempts to stabilize tumbling markets.

The Shanghai Composite Index has dived about 30 percent from its June 12 peak. The steep decline comes after a spectacular rally that sent the Shanghai index up 150 percent in the previous 12 months despite slowing growth in the world's second biggest economy...

This stuff just makes me shake my head. So much going on that we dont know about. Best to just move on because reading about suspicious stuff going on at this high of a level makes me feel very insignificant. lol
