The Seattle Seahawks' recent history of bad injury in Week 1 luck woefully continued this year. In 2023, Charles Cross and Abe Lucas missed significant time for injuries suffered in the season opener against the Rams. Last year, George Fant was lost for the year during the Broncos game. Now, we have another name to this unfortunate list: rookie safety Nick Emmanwori.

Against the 49ers, Emmanwori exited the game early after tackling running back Christian McCaffrey with an ankle injury. He was listed as QUESTIONABLE, but did not return to action. During the postgame press conference, head coach Mike Macdonald seemed optimistic about Emmanwori's health. But on Monday afternoon, Seattle's top man gave a more grim diagnosis: Emmanwori officially has a high ankle sprain.

Not only that, but a stint on the Injured Reserve (IR) is not being ruled out. This news was reported by ESPN's Brady Henderson.

Mike Macdonald said S Nick Emmanwori actually does have a high ankle sprain (he said postgame it didn’t look like one), and that a stint on IR is under consideration. Emmanwori went down on the fifth play of his NFL debut.

Losing an exceedingly winnable game to San Francisco is bad enough, but losing one of your key defensive cogs as well? Quite literally adding injury to insult, if I can be allowed to reverse a common phrase.

If there is some good news to be reported, Henderson did go on to say linebacker Uchenna Nwosu will be practicing this week. Additionally, there is optimism that wide receivers Jake Bobo and Dareke Young will practice as well. All three players were ruled OUT against the 49ers. There is hope at least two of them could be back for the Week 2 showdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Seahawks Wire will continue to monitor the health situation of all four players mentioned in this article.
