The Coyotes will select No. 5 in the 2018 NHL Draft. Coyotes fall out of top 3 again. The Valley's curse continues.

The Coyotes had a 37.7 percent chance of picking fifth, the highest odds they had of landing any of the first six picks. That's where they landed.

Notable players drafted fifth overall in past NHL Drafts: Phil Kessel (2006), Carey Price (2005), and Jaromi Jagr (1990)

The Coyotes have picked at No. 5 once before. They got Blake Wheeler.

Not the least bit surprised they didn't get a top 3 - it's the Coyotes! But, the way last season ended, i'm ok with #5.

I still don't get the NHL odds math. How does a team have the 3rd worst points yet have the highest percentage of getting the #5 spot??

Are they calculating ROW's into it?

Sucks that we dropped, especially since I really liked the top 4 in the draft. With that being said, if the draft breaks like most people expect, we should at least have our choice of whoever we believe is the second best Defenseman in the draft.

.@ArizonaCoyotes GM John Chayka on getting 5th pick at #NHLDraftLottery: "Everyone wants to win, but picking in the top 5 is a win, and it's an opportunity to add a great player. We got Clayton Keller at No. 7. He's a high-end player. We expect to get a similar player at No. 5."

.@ArizonaCoyotes GM John Chayka, Ast. GM Steve Sullivan & members of amateur scouting staff are in Buffalo this week for the annual NHL Combine. They're conducting interviews with some of the 104 draft prospects who are attending. Physical tests for prospects are later this week.
