Jordon Hudson has reportedly told at least one person that she and North Carolina coach Bill Belichick are engaged to be married, according to The New York Times via The Athletic's Chad Graff.
The 73-year-old coach's private relationship with his 24-year-old girlfriend has become not-so-private. Hudson has been seen on the spring practice field at North Carolina, a Super Bowl commercial and a promotional interview for Belichick's new book, The Art of Winning: Lessons from a Life in Football.
While Hudson doesn't work for North Carolina—a point Belichick and the university have hammered hard in recent weeks—the extra publicity hasn't been a great look for the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach.
Former Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson even went as far as suggesting North Carolina consider firing Belichick.
The reason stems from Hudson's reported meltdown at a CBS interview, when she reportedly interjected multiple times. She also publicly released a private, fiery email from Belichick to the people in his camp about the promotion for his book. There is also the fact that she has been seen on the field while the team is practicing.
“I think the Carolina Tar Heels should consider firing Bill Belichick," Johnson said on "WEEI Afternoons". "They should consider letting him go at this point. ...I just think, just what you've seen so far. The behaviors with Jordon, that dynamic, her being on the football field, her kind of just, I think, embarrassing Bill."
Time will tell how the situation ultimately unfolds with North Carolina. If Belichick's Tar Heels win football games, this could all become a distant memory. However, it could be an issue if they struggle in his first year with the program. The university is paying Belichick a base salary of $10 million per year on a five-year deal.
