NFL owners voted Monday to modify the schedule to ease the burden of cross-country road trips.
Last year, the Patriots and the Jets had to make West Coast trips to play AFC West opponents and NFC West teams. The Patriots chose to remain on the West Coast twice last season -- for back-to-back games against San Francisco and San Diego in October and Seattle and Oakland in December -- to minimize the wear-and-tear the schedule presented.
The Jets, meanwhile, played at San Diego and then had to travel to Oakland three weeks later. In December, New York visited San Francisco, returned home to play Buffalo, then went back to the coast to play Seattle. The Jets were upset by the Raiders as part of a late-season swoon that prevented them from making the playoffs.
Under the new plan, teams wouldn't have to visit two West Coast teams, just one, along with a team closer to the Midwest. Specifically, Oakland will be paired with Denver, and San Diego will be paired with Denver. In the NFC, Arizona and San Francisco will be paired as will St. Louis and Seattle.
Since 2002 when the league expanded to eight four-team divisions, the NFL has used a rotating formula in which a team plays four opponents within its conference once every three years and four teams in the other conference every four years.
Teams that have road games against Denver and Oakland will get home games against Kansas City and San Diego. The opposite scenario will also be true. The same format of home-and-away games with the paired cities holds true for the NFC as well.
The proposal was submitted by the broadcast committee for the purpose of creating a better balance for travel to the West Coast. Currently, the AFC South and the NFC West are scheduled to play the AFC West in 2010, which is when the new plan would be starting.
Senior NFL writer John Clayton contributed to this report.

I do not see any mention of west coast teams traveling east. Seemed all the talk was about west coast teams traveling east and having the early start time and how that attributed to the poor showings of those teams, not visa versa.

No relief for West Coast teams heading east

I then saw then from Sando LINK

DANA POINT, Calif. -- West Coast teams were entitled to a collective roll of the eyes when NFL owners passed a resolution sparing East Coast teams from hardships associated with playing on the West Coast.
The Seahawks, 49ers, Cardinals, Raiders and Chargers have long dreaded playing East Coast games with 10 a.m. PT kickoff times. From their perspective, the rest of the league has largely shrugged. But after the Patriots faced back-to-back road games on the West Coast last season, owners acted decisively to fix the injustice Monday.

You need to remember that any state west of the Mississippi is not a part of the US.

I blame it on the west coast owners. They never asked for a vote on it for this owners meeting, the east coast owners did. The west coast owners got on the band wagon way to late in the process. It isnt a bias its just that someone dropped the ball. The 5 west coast owners will get a vote next year.

But all is not lost. It is believed that even the west coast teams will get their wish of later game times when their east coast trips are scheduled, which is the real crux of the issue playing on the east coast and thats playing in the morning throwing off the body clocks of the players.

Ohh...the unjustice done to the Patriots....whoe is me.:moon:

Luckily we face the AFC West this year, so there is still time to get this traveling stuff equal.

What a bunch of freaking Crap!!! They get MORE rest going to the West Coast...

Jesus, why do the media and the NFL scream for rule changes when it affect their precious darlings the Patrios and the other east coast teams.

Brady goes down on Freak Play: Change the rule.
Patriots and Jets lose critical games down the streatch: Change the Scheduling
Patriots miss playoffs with double digit wins: Change the playoff system.

Eff that!

It has nothing to do with the media or the NFL. These things are voted on by the owners/executives of the actualy teams who make up the various committee's that come up with this stuff. Committee's by the way that the Cards brass hold the most amount of positions compared to the rest of the league by the way. Sando just did a blog on it, there are something like 12 different committee's and the Cards hold positions on 8 of them, the next highest team is 6.

yep, the Pats run the league. Now the hitting the QB rule below the knee rule has been changed becuase Brady got hurt. If that had been Kyle Orton or Dan Orlovsky i doubt a rule change would have occurred.

Actually, we play the AFC South this year which means trips to Tennessee and Jacksonville.

Supposedly Bidwill and Al Davis wanted to bring it to everyone's attention that it should be equal for both sides (including west coast teams traveling to the east coast) but it was largely ignored

Per John Clayton:

The NFL owners have met and agreed to give the Patriots a 7 point lead to begin each game. This rule is due in large part to the unfortunate series of events that lead to the Patriots not qualifying for the NFL playoffs. Under the current rule the Patriots unfairly had to start the game at a 0-0 tie which brought undue stress to quarterback and possible reincarnation of Jesus Christ, Tom Brady.
