NFL Issues Response to Jail Sentence of Kansas City Chiefs WR Rashee Rice originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is going to have the law in his life for the next half-decade and will also spend some time behind bars for his role in a multi-car crash that occurred in Texas in 2024.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported the news of Rice's sentencing via social media on Thursday, July 17, noting that the NFL will almost certainly add to the punishment by suspending Rice for a number of games in the 2025 season.
"ESPN sources: A Dallas County judge just sentenced Chiefs WR Rashee Rice to five years probation and 30 days of jail time that can be served during those five years stemming for his role in a multi-car crash in Dallas during the 2024 offseason," Schefter wrote. "Now that the judge has ruled, the NFL can expedite its disciplinary process and Rice is likely to receive a multi-game suspension."
NFL public relations officer Brian McCarthy issued a public response to the news of Rice's sentencing, which Schefter also shared on his X account.
"The @NFLprguy on the Rashee Rice case: "We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter, which remains under review."
Rice, a second-round pick in 2023, will begin his third NFL season in September.
Rice made 79 catches tallying 978 yards and seven touchdowns during his rookie campaign. However, a knee injury last season limited the 25-year-old wideout to just four games played and totals of 24 grabs for 288 yards and two touchdowns.
