Three years ago, incoming general manager Joe Schoen promised to change the culture of the Giants as well as the results. So far, he's batting .500.
On Saturday, at the 2025 NFL draft, Schoen just might have brought in his cornerstone player in Cameron Skattebo, the physical, versatile running back who carried Arizona State to the Big 12 championship and College Football Playoffs last season.
Skattebo is a tone-setter, a player who raises the level of a room with his unselfish and productive leadership style. He will -- and has -- done just about everything to help his teams win football games.
Skattebo should have been selected on Day 2, but for some reason, he was left behind. That's good news for the Giants and their fans. Schoen adroitly scooped him up with the third pick on Day 3.
Skattebo is going to be a fan favorite in East Rutherford. He now has a chip on his shoulder as well. Look out, NFL.
"It kind of shows more of the path of how people have doubted me a little bit. And now that the Giants believe in me, I'm gonna believe in what they have and what we have as a team, and we're gonna go try to win a championship," he told Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.
"Physicality is definitely contagious. If someone gets ran over, it hypes the other guys up and gets them going. So I'm gonna continue to bring that and hopefully, it feeds off onto my teammates."
The Giants are raking in steal after steal in this draft it seems. Schoen nailed last year's draft and looks like he might best that performance this year.
"When I got there, I felt comfortable. Made me feel like they wanted me a lot. New York was awesome to me and glad I’m going to be a Giant," Skattebo said.
