The New York Giants' impressive rookie class from the 2024 NFL draft was likely a significant selling point for co-owner John Mara in retaining the current regime of general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll. One of the quieter rookie years from that class was tight end Theo Johnson.
Johnson, who was selected by the Giants in the fourth round (108th overall) in last year's draft, has been tabbed as the team's potential breakout player to watch in minicamp by Pro Football Network.
Johnson should already be in a better position than he was during his rookie year. On top of being in his second season under Daboll, fellow 2024 draftees Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy will also add to the continuity around the Giants' offense.
The biggest improvement for the Giants is at the quarterback position, with Russell Wilson set to start the season under center for Big Blue.
Johnson was highly touted for his athleticism out of college and many believed the Giants may have gotten a steal in the fourth round when they took him.
With the offense running through Nabers, Johnson may be able to fly under the radar and have a more significant role in the offense this year.

New York Giants: Theo Johnson
As a fourth-round rookie in 2024, Theo Johnson started 11 of the 12 games he played in before a season-ending injury. Most notably, he caught 26 passes between Weeks 5-13.
The New York Giants value Johnson; he played in over 70% of their offensive snaps every game he played. He’s a freak athlete at tight end who should benefit from a new quarterback throwing to him in Year 2.
