The New Orleans Saints were among the teams to vote in favor of the tush push.
The NFL hosted a league meeting on Wednesday to allow teams to vote on various subjects. The biggest topic voted on was a potential ban on the "tush push"—a quarterback sneak popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles in which the ball carrier is pushed from behind by larger teammates.

The Green Bay Packers initiated the ban and received lots of support throughout the process, including a vouch from Commissioner Roger Goodell. Despite the overwhelming support to ban the play, the Packers only received 22 votes—two votes short of the number needed to get it banned.
The biggest knock against the popular quarterback sneak is the potential for injuries, popularized by the injury to Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones during Super Bowl LIX.
Among the 10 teams who voted against the ban were the New Orleans Saints. The Saints recently hired former Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their head coach. Moore experienced the success of the play firsthand during his Super Bowl run with Philadelphia and made New Orleans a likely team to vote to keep the play legal.
With the tush push here to stay, the Saints could utilize the play. New Orleans drafted Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough with the 40th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. At 6-foot-5, Shough could take advantage of his large frame and has the mobility to execute the play.
When Kellen Moore was asked about the Saints potentially running the tush push, he said “I don’t know, we’ll see. Obviously, I think other teams have tried to replicate it and have not had success. ... It’s a huge investment to execute that play at a really high level, and (the Eagles) put a lot of time and effort into it.”
