After selecting Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron in the first round of the NFL draft last month, the Denver Broncos now have five former Longhorns on their roster.

In addition to Barron, the Broncos also employ safeties Brandon Jones and P.J. Locke, defensive lineman Malcolm Roach and quarterback Sam Ehlinger. Coach Sean Payton joked after the Barron pick that Denver is now "at a max" of Texas players.

Barron played for the Longhorns from 2020-2024, overlapping with Ehlinger in 2020. After being picked by the Broncos, Barron was asked about reconnecting with Texas players and if he had heard from any new teammates.

“Most definitely," Barron said. "I’ve talked to a lot of guys. Pat Surtain is an amazing player to play with. I’ve been watching him, I’ve been watching his game, and I love the things that he can do. Just soaking a lot of knowledge from him and getting a lot of information from him will be big for me just to grow and mature at the next level.

"Then playing with all the guys that I looked up to when I used to be a kid running around in Austin and just going to the games and watching them play in D.K.R. from Brandon, to P.J. to Roach and all those guys, and then Sam Ehlinger. That was always my G.O.A.T. growing up watching him. I used to go to his high school games and things like that. Just to have all those guys around, it’s amazing to have my Texas boys with me, too.”

Barron will meet and reunite with his Texas crew when organized team activities later this month, and he will connect with his fellow rookies at rookie minicamp later this week. He should fit right in with his new team.
