Brooklyn Nets forward Trendon Watford had the best season of his NBA career ever since he came into the league as an undrafted free-agent out of LSU. Watford has spent the past two seasons in Brooklyn and while his performance last season was solid, this season showed what he is capable of with the ball in his hands more often than not.
Watford, 24, average 10.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 46.9% from the field and 33.0% from three-point land while playing a career-high 20.8 minutes per contest. Thanks to a combination of the Nets dealing with some injuries and head coach Jordi Fernandez trying different methods on the floor, Watford was able to shine as the point forward that he's been since his days in college.
This season was a rough one for Brooklyn as the team finished with a 26-56 record, but the good news is that players like Watford were able to get plenty of experience on the floor during the rebuilding season. What was disappointing for Watford is that he was only able to play in 44 games this season, mostly due to a left hamstring that he had to deal with coming out of training camp.
Along the way, Watford had to keep coming off the bench because of players like Dorian Finney-Smith and Noah Clowney filling the power forward spot along with Nic Claxton and Day'Ron Sharpe sharing the center duties. However, Watford was impressive when he was able to start as he averaged 14.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game on 52.5/44.4/79.3 shooting splits while averaging 26.2 minutes in those contests.
Despite how well Watford played this season for a Nets team that needed as many players to step up as possible, he will be an unrestricted free-agent so there's no guarantee that he comes back to Brooklyn to continue being the point forward for the team. In the meantime, here are some of his best highlights from the 2024-25 season where he played his best basketball:
