Brooklyn Nets forward Jalen Wilson is coming off a solid second season in the NBA after seeing more playing time for a rebuilding Nets team this campaign. Brooklyn leaned into a full-scale rebuild coming into the 2024-25 season by trading Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks for a haul of first-round picks, opening the door for someone like Wilson to get more of an opportunity to show what he can do.
Wilson, 24, averaged 9.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 39.7% from the field and 33.7% from three-point land. Not only did Wilson averaged career-highs in points, rebounds, and assists per game, he also achieved a career-high in effective field-goal percentage (49.5%) while playing in the most games in his career since being the 51st overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.
Wilson has spent the majority of his career for the Nets coming off the bench as he has been behind forward Cam Johnson and Bridges for the starting spots at either small forward or power forward. With Bridges playing for the Knicks and Johnson playing in just 57 games, Wilson had some games where he was either able to play more minutes than usual or outright start the game as he did 22 times this season.
While it's clear that Wilson struggled with his efficiency throughout the season as his shooting percentages were down across the board aside from the aforementioned effective field-goal percentage, he did have some portions of the season where he was an impact player for Brooklyn. Through his first 19 games of the season, Wilson averaged 9.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 46.2% from the field and 37.5% from deep.
More to the point, Wilson ended the season playing some of the best basketball of his career as he averaged 15.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 47.6% from the field and 51.5% from behind the three-point line in four games in April.
