Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas is one of the more interesting free-agents this offseason as he enters NBA free-agency after the best season of his four-year career. Thomas is a restricted free-agent so Brooklyn has more control over whether he remains with the team, but it's intriguing to see how the negotiations go over the course of the summer.

"Cam Thomas is going to be interesting. He is a restricted free agent, you are basically kind of bidding against yourself because you're the only team that has cap space," ESPN's Bobby Marks said during his offseason guide video on the Nets. As he alluded to, Brooklyn is expected to be the only team in the NBA this summer that will be able to offer a free-agent more than $15 million and that could potentially limit Thomas' market.

"Certainly from an efficiency standpoint, [Thomas is a] high-volume scorer. What is his number in free agency? Is it 20ish? Somewhere around there," Marks continued. "Consider [the deal] comparable to the Anfernee Simons contract that he signed. Remember, Brooklyn has the right to match any offer sheet. You have leverage in the process until a team comes in with money. Who's that team going to be?"

Thomas, 23, is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he averaged 24.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 43.8% from the field and 34.9% from three-point land. While Thomas posted some of the best numbers of his career, he also played in just 25 games as he dealt with issues in his left hamstring and it's possible that those injuries could affect his market.

"There's nobody out there right now that has more than $15 million. I do think he is a priority to come back," Marks said. "But, I do think he's a part of a pecking order of how you're going to structure your salaries moving forward." Simons signed a four-year, $100 million contract in June of 2022 and was coming off a 2021-22 campaign in which he averaged 17.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per contest while shooting 44.3% from the floor and 40.5% from deep.

At the time Simons signed his deal, the NBA salary cap was $123.6 million. However, heading into the 2025-26 campaign, the salary cap is expected to be $154.6 million so it's fair to say Thomas could be looking at a deal that is worth closer to $30 million per season as opposed to the $25 million per year that Simons signed for. At this point, it seems that a deal between Thomas and the Nets will come down to what makes sense for both sides.
