Nation’s No. 3 RB Cancels Previous Commitment Plans originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
As the college football offseason progresses, many of the top players in the 2026 recruiting class are narrowing in and making their commitment decisions, including running back Derrek Cooper out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
It's a high-level battle for his services, as he has already taking official visits with the Auburn Tigers (May 16), Miami Hurricanes (May 30), Alabama Crimson Tide (June 6), Georgia Bulldogs (June 13), Florida State Seminoles (June 15) and Ohio State Buckeyes (June 20).
His decision was supposed to be nearing, as Rivals reported that Cooper would be announcing his commitment on July 12, but in an X post on Monday, the running back revealed that it would no longer be happening.
A new date is yet to be announced; however, an interesting aspect about this scenario is that in an article posted Monday from Inside Texas's Justin Wells, Cooper said, “I want to visit Texas during the season," so the Longhorns could also be an option.
Another high-powered program potentially entering the race doesn't come as a huge shock, considering On3 Industry Rankings have him as a four-star recruit, No. 3 running back and the No. 34 player in the nation.
Last season, he was impressive for Chaminade-Madonna High School, with 124 carries for 905 yards and 13 touchdowns while also having nine receptions, 156 yards and one touchdown.

As of now, it appears two favorites have emerged in the battle, as the On3 recruiting prediction machine gives the Hurricanes the best chances to land Cooper (48.6%), while the Bulldogs are in second (38.1%), with nobody else higher than 3%.
