Pisa Tinoisamoa LB - why?

Yeah he's small, and if we're still running a 3-4 it's epic fail LB signing.

Also cutting THT when he's averaging around 5 yards a carry and has clearly outplaying Beanie isn't very smart. THT isn't a great starter, but he's a capable NFL back, and we're not in position to cut capable players. Michael Bush has a long list of injuries over his career and has never been a consistent starting running back. I'd leave it be, keep THT and not sign Bush.

I like everything else, though I'd add a veteran QB.

Rumors are that Kubiak is safe and that Wade Phillips will be his new DC. Great move.

I heard the Kubiak may be safe if he fires his DC and DB coach...but I haven't heard the Phillips to HOU rumor yet.

Hiring Phillips would be a big mistake for Houston. Mario Williams has no position in a 3-4 defense. Hiring Singletary as Asst. HC and someone like Leslie Frazier as a one-year DC rental would be a better idea.

A RB stable of Bush-McClain-THT-Hyphen would be nastiness and Jones to stretch the field and draw attention from Fitz would be killer. But, you're right. This is nothing more than a dream....

swd1974 has always hated Hightower. THT could put up 200 yards a game and have 20 TD on a season and he would find something to negative to say about him.

Nope.

The only reason I have him released is because I am a fan of a 1 RB system. If you have a second it should be to take 15% of the carries max. Id prefer that to be LSH but Whiz will never let that happen and I think Mike Bush has home run capability. So I had to get rid of 1 RB.

In my scenerio I let Wright go for a FB so I had to let HT, Wells or LSH go. I dont think HT is a franchise back and has had the chance to prove it. Wells hasnt had a full season with 80% of the carries yet. Id like to see it.

Nice post, but a couple holes.

Gary Kubiak is staying in Houston.

Marvin Lewis will get another head coaching job next season.

Way too early to cut Early Doucet. He doesn't make a bunch of money, and he still provides WR depth. I wouldn't view him as a reason to not re-sign Breaston, but he still has skill that might blossom.

I don't have a problem not re-signing Hightower if his contract is up, but he is too good to cut.

Boss and Nicks would be good signings. In fact if you added Donald Penn, the LT from Tampa, I would take that over Breaston, McClain, Bush and James Jones. Our offensive line is pretty bad.

Woodley is a guy that I am torn on. He will cost a ton, but really fills a hole. I can't say that I would add him over improving our offensive line, but appears to be a great fit for what we need.

Chopper, Penn signed an extension with Tampa last June. If you want a solution to the LT problem in Free Agency, you're rolling the dice on Jared Gaither. And Penn isn't that good.

But we're going to see Levi Brown at LT next season, because he's going to be making a ton of money next year, but he's going to be making a whole butt-load of money in 2012 if he's still on the roster.

Man, what a terrible, terrible draft pick Levi Brown was.

 Fix the O-line and get a QB. Getting Woodley would be a bonus!

Draft another saftey's who can cover ground!

Agreed. It's one of those picks that we're still regretting 4-5 years later.

Wow, so not sold on Gaither but probably better than Levi. I guess I am stuck with rooting for us to upgrade the guard position by re-signing Duece and signing Carl Nicks or Robert Gallery to play the left side. The offensive line is a huge priority in my opinion, even more so if we bring in a young QB.

Levi Brown was Grimm's personal choice to solidify the OL. Grimm must, must be the 2nd to go after Davis. Then Graves.

The way this OL line is playing, it will not make any difference who the QB is. He can't pass from his back.

I'm glad that Whizenhunt still believes that the system is working. He has to make changes or leave. Maybe he can take the team to the movies when they return from SF.

Here's how I build the roster (I don't know of the contract status of the following players):

Draft Cam Newton
Draft speedy 2nd/3rd round WR (a la PIT WR Mike Wallace)
Draft DB depth

Sign SEA WR Mike Williams
Sign OAK RB Michael Bush
Sign ATL RB Jason Snelling
Sign two veteran OL
Sign PIT LB Lamar Woodley

Acquire as DC Kevin Greene
Acquire as OC Norm Chow

Offense (We can now run a RB committee a la KC and NYJ):

QB Cam Newton
RB1 Michael Bush
RB2 Jason Snelling
RB3 Tim Hightower
WR1 Larry Fitzgerald
WR2 Mike Williams
WR3 Rookie "Mike Wallace"
TE Ben Patrick

Defense:

Dockett-Williams-Campbell
Schofield-Woodley-Washington-Haggans
DRC-Wilson-Rhodes-Toler

Our defensive problems are a matter of scheme, not necessarily personnel. That's why I have so few defensive additions. Our offensive problems are personnel AND scheme problems....

I respect the work that you put into this, but I hate the plan for a couple reasons.

You can't give up on Beanie Wells this early.

Neither of your coordinator hires has any history of success in the NFL.

You are banking on playing Woodley inside in a 3-4 by your breakdown which would be pointless as it would ruin his rush ability.

You are banking on drafting a WR in the 3rd who will win the 3rd WR spot. Not likely, and we already did this last year.

You want to invest starting WR money into a player in Mike Williams who has one successful season in his entire career. Why not invest the same moeny in Breaston who at least already knows the system?

You have failed to address the QB position other than making it younger which is a sure fire way to struggle. We have to have a vet in place to help prepare Newton (in this case).

Needs:
QB
LT
OLB x 2
ILB
CB

FA:
Breaston - Cannot afford to lose him, no other ready WR on the roster
Lutui - Faneca will probably retire and we cannot lose our best OL (Lutui)
Wimbley - Woodley and Hali will be franchised, Wimbley is best to hit FA
Harris - Will team with Washington to form a nice duo
Marshall - Up and coming CB that will complement DRC and push Toler
Spears - Cowboys may not bring him back, their loss is our gain

Draft:
1st - Ryan Mallett - Franchise QB, enough said
2nd - DeMarcus Love - Will start Day 1 at LT and move Brown to RT
3rd - Sam Acho - Bookend to Wimbley, force coming off the edge
4th - Lance Kendricks - Everyone says we need a TE
5th - Mark Barron - Will replace Wilson in a couple of years
6th - Colin Baxter - UA standout will provide backup to Sendelein
7th - Stephen Schilling - Backup G

OC - Brad Childress - Didn't work out in MIN but had a nice run in PHI.

DC - Best available after season

Andy Reid calls his own plays. So Childress hasn't been the offensive play caller in Minnesota or Philadelphia.
