In the late summer of 2023, the Milwaukee Bucks tried to extend their championship window by acquiring all-time Top 75 point guard Damian Lillard from Portland in a deal for Jrue Holiday. Unfortunately, by the summer of 2025, that window the Bucks tried to open with Lillard closed, as the team waived the guard and stretched the remaining $112 million over the next five seasons – or $22.4 million against the Bucks’ books through 2029-30.

The move with Lillard, however, allowed the Bucks to sign free-agent center Myles Turner away from Indiana.

Lillard's 2026-27 option year of $58 million is included in the total money the Bucks owe Lillard, who tore his Achilles tendon in the first round of the playoffs against Indiana.

Lillard, who will turn 35 years old on July 15, likely will miss most if not all of the 2025-26 campaign.

He turned in two all-star seasons while with the Bucks, appearing in 131 games and averaging 24.6 points and 7.0 assists per game. He was the all-star game MVP in 2024 and helped the Bucks win the 2025 NBA Cup title.
