On Saturday, Michigan State football will welcome in Youngstown State to Spartan Stadium, with the Spartans looking to improve to 3-0 on the 2025 season.
With a win, and potentially improving to 3-0, Jonathan Smith has a chance to do something that not even Mark Dantonio did in his career at Michigan State.
Michigan State has a chance to start back to back seasons 3-0 for the first time since 2006 and 2007 (the Spartans also did it in 2005 as well), the last year of John L. Smith and the first year of Dantonio. It might seem crazy, but during Dantonio's complete 2007-2019 tenure in East Lansing, he never started back to back seasons 3-0. Smith can do just that in his first two years with the program.
All in all, a semi-meaningless stat, because how you finish a year is what is most important, getting off to these hot starts is something that Michigan State fans would love to com accustom to.
