MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel met with reporters for a rare Tuesday session, the product of the game against the Buffalo Bills being on “Thursday Night Football.”
McDaniel gave an updated injury report, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's injury history against the Bills and the rivalry between the AFC East rivals. Buffalo enters the game 2-0 while the Dolphins are 0-2.

McDaniel said he expects center Aaron Brewer (hip) to play against the Bills.
“He’s a captain of this team and he’s willing to do whatever it takes,” McDaniel said.
In other injury news, tight end Darren Waller (hip) and running back Jaylen Wright (knee) are still TBA. Receiver Malik Washington (thumb) is expected to play.

McDaniel was asked to weigh when quarterback Tua Tagovailoa should and should not put himself in harm’s way.
“You want him to be competitive within reason,” McDaniel said.
Tagovailoa landed on injured reserve in 2021 after a hit by Buffalo defensive end A.J. Epenesa.
McDaniel described what it’s like for Tagovailoa to have to watch the team “suffer” because he got injured. So it has to be a smart decision weighing risk vs. reward.
“It affects how aggressive you can be,” McDaniel said. “It’s an inexact science you have to talk through.”
McDaniel added, “It’s a tricky game that you play.”
Asked about his introduction to the Dolphins-Bills rivalry, McDaniel said he has a clear memory of the exact moment he figured out how fierce it can be.
“Yeah, it was a middle finger” by Dolphins linebacker Bryan Cox to Bills fans as he came out of the tunnel in 1993.
McDaniel said he has seen a middle finger or two from Bills fans himself.
“They’re pretty nice people until, when it comes to football, they say a lot of things,” McDaniel said.
Asked about the players’ adherence to team rules, McDaniel said, “I haven’t fined anybody and haven’t changed any of the specific non-negotiable rules. Rule No. 3 of our team rules is be on time.”
