The New York Mets sat at the top of the MLB standings up until recently, dropping from No. 1 into a tie for the third-best record in baseball after the St. Louis Cardinals swept a May 4 doubleheader against them.
In turn, the Mets fell out of the No. 1 spot in the latest round of power rankings on MLB.com.

"Well, it was a fun week while it lasted," MLB.com writer Will Leitch began the ranking. "While the Mets briefly took over the No. 1 spot in last week's Power Rankings, the Los Angeles Dodgers are back to their customary spot this week, after a dominant seven games, reasserting their (presumed) status as the best team in baseball."
On the bright side, MLB.com only dropped the Mets one spot, keeping them at No. 2 despite Sunday's setback.
"Remember how we spent much of the offseason wondering if Pete Alonso was really going to leave the Mets, only to have him re-sign at nearly the last possible minute? Well, the first month of that new era of Alonso's Mets career was the best month of Alonso's Mets career," Leitch continued later.
"His Player of the Month recognition marked the first time he'd ever won the honor," the writer added. Noting: "He homered in his second game of the month of May, of course."
As for what went wrong on Sunday, injuries and pitching woes have done the Mets in of late after their rotation's league-best start.
23-year-old Blade Tidwell was hammered for 6 earned runs in his major league debut after being called upon as a spot starter, and Tylor Megill allowed another 4 earned runs over 5.0 innings in the night game of the doubleheader.
The bullpen was solid on Sunday despite a constant revolving door of arms after long-term injuries to A.J. Minter and Danny Young, although Max Kranick did take the loss in the rubber game.
Amid a slow start, superstar Juan Soto went a combined 2-for-9 on Sunday, with 2 runs scored, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.
Having said that, Soto's stat line would have looked very different if a potential three-run home run off his bat wasn't robbed at the wall by Cardinals center fielder Victor Scott II in game two.
