No. 9 for the Los Angeles Rams has now become the NFL's No. 9 all-time.
Matthew Stafford threw for 181 and a touchdown en route to a 17-3 victory over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, pushing his career passing yards to 61,493. Stafford surpassed the legendary Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino's 61,361 yards to move up the regular-season historical leaderboards.
In his 17th NFL season, Stafford is having one of the best first halves of his career, putting himself in discussion for what would be his first MVP award. After six games, he has 12 touchdowns and only two interceptions to go along with a league-leading 1,684 through the air.
While this is a monumental achievement in the veteran quarterback's career, this might not be the last person Stafford passes this season. He trails Atlanta Falcons legend Matt Ryan by 1,947 yards with 11 games left in the season. If Stafford continues his current projections, the No. 8 spot will be his by December.
After Ryan, next up would be Chargers icon Philip Rivers with 63,440 yards, which is doable if he continues on his MVP pace. Alongside current starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers, they're both aiming for the No. 5 position in the rankings, as Ben Roethlisberger sits with 64,088. After that, things become much tougher, as Brett Favre sets a new standard, sitting at 71,838 yards.
At 37, the odds might be against Stafford from challenging Favre, but as he leads the Rams to another title-contending season, would you really want to bet against Stafford?
