If you haven't heard of the Punt God, Matt Araiza, P, San Diego State yet, all I can tell you is he regularly boots them 60+ yards from LOS, and is the Ray Guy winner for '21. I personally think he is going to be worth his weight in gold in the NFL. My question is were will he be drafted. Only a very few punters are ever drafted, and only a handful, if that, prior to Day 3 of the draft. A couple of exceptions in NFL history were Bryan Anger who was selected in the third round (70th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft and Todd Sauerbrun who was chosen 56th overall in 1995.

So after picking what round Araiza is selected this draft, then narrow it down to the exact pick he is chosen at, for instance 70th or 169th. Closest wins of course. If Araiza is truly the God of all Punters, shouldn't he go prior to 56th? Tell us what your exact guess is.

5th for me.

Only takes one team that's stacked for talent (like the Rams). Better to draft a guy like Araiza and have one of the best punters that draft the 100th best safety or 150th best tackle.

Rams released Hekker too...

I said 4th. If we had a better roster I'd love us to take him there but I think we need too much help to draft a punter. You never know kickers and punters are hard to project the level of pressure in the NFL is huge. But he looks like he's going to be a game changer, he can flip the field.

The impact of a guy like him is potentially huge. You can take more risks in your own side of the field instead of just running on 3rd down to punt, because you aren't afraid of having to punt knowing you have a guy who can hit a 60 plus yarder and flip the field.

Presently, this is a civil lawsuit, but detectives recently submitted their findings to the District Attorney's office to decide if charges should be filed.

From the above link posted by @bankybruce.

By Alaina Getzenberg ESPN:

Araiza was drafted by the Bills in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL draft. He was officially named the team's starter on Monday over Matt Haack, the Bills' punter last year.

"We were recently made aware of a civil complaint involving Matt from October 2021," the Bills said in a statement. "Due to the serious nature of the complaint, we conducted a thorough examination of this matter. As this is an ongoing civil case legal, we will have no other comment at this point."

Sadly the NFL has zero power to punish him because it happened before the draft. Only the Bills can punish him and since they were aware of the accusations before they cut their incumbent punter last week...

If they don't do anything they are no better than the Browns and the Texans.

That they knew this and still cut the other punter is the big part did they not think it was going to eventually get out in the public?

I don't understand why it's just a civil case if nothing else didn't he admit on a recorded call to statutory rape since she was only 17?

Also from the way they're saying he responded to the question like he realized something was up, that implies to me this isn't the first time he's done something like this, that he knew to be cautious because someone might be listening on the call suggests that was not his first time assaulting a girl.

Guy needs to be up on charges IMO.

What caught my attention is the Bills knew about the situation and investigated it before they drafted him.

It sounds like they made an independent decision.

No, the Bills did not know about it before the draft but they knew before they cut their current punter
