I don't think this target share is crazy. 575 passing attempts, 27% for Hop, 14% for Kirk, 13% for Fitz.

The '24 Cards had 543 passing attempts; 27% for Trey, 21% for Charmin, 14% for MWilly.
ive confered with the other judges - it's gonna be a no go on the mwilly moniker

agreed 100%, it's why I think he will be better this year.

I am just saying I don't think the issue with Marv last year was Kyler I think the issue was he couldn't get open nearly as easily as he did in college. And that was the case all year, even as the season went on he was still struggling to get separation
its a combination.
Kyler has ALWAYS had trust issues with his WR's and needs to see them open before he throws the ball in most cases...Hop was the only guy he really trusted to come down with it no matter what.
I think part of the issue, was Petzing schemed Marv into these back shoulder passes to get Kyler comfortable with the idea of throwing to Marv while he is covered...because its in the route design.
Murray has never been a good on schedule passer...thats one of his biggest flaws and part of the reason they have been trying to keep him in the pocket throwing on time...he has to learn it if he plans to progress. Guys just dont stay open very long in the NFL...so when you wait to see them open the coverage collapses before the pass gets there.you gotta throw it before they break.
Kyler has gotten better at it but its obvious he still doesn't trust it.
Marv is at his best when the ball comes out on schedule.
with all the talk this off season about scrambling and off schedule plays I am concerned that the staff has given up on the idea of Kyler being a legitimate pocket passing QB.
The joystick QB stuff is exciting...but a clear path to failure in the long run.

I get all that but early in the year I refuse to believe the issue on backshoulder throws was Kyler, it was Marv. I see absolutely no reason to think the rookie was doing the right thing and Kyler wasn't, an in fact they told us that Marv was struggling to get on the same page as Kyler which was a polite way of saying he's not reading the plays correctly so he's not where Kyler is throwing the ball on the back shoulder plays. That got better.

Yeah...I have not seen anything over Kyler's career that gives me utmost confidence he is making all of the correct reads. Dude is not a timing and rhythm passer. Even McBride has shared that he doesn't run precise routes because he learned that Kyler wants him adjust to where Kyler wants him to go based on what Kyler is seeing. Very similar to how Fitz struggled with Kyler.

I tell ya in all honesty though.
If you and me were picking teams down at the park for the annual Thanksgiving mud bowl...I would pick Kyler Murray over any QB in the NFL.
Dude is an absolutely amazing sandlot football player.

get Kyler out there with two WR's fast enough to scare the defense...and watch him run for 10 TD's and throw for 2

In Hopkins three seasons as a Cardinal.

2020 - 87.9 yards per game.
2021 - 57.2 yards per game.
2022 - 79.7 yards per game.

I think we mis-remember Hopkins time in AZ a little. Only 1 season over 750 yards receiving. His only good season was in 2020 when the Cardinals went 8-8. Lots of missed games.

You're not "wrong"
I think you're leaving out a lot of context.

My original post was that he averaged almost 100 yards w/KYLER in 2022. He averaged 96 YPG (if we toss out the Pats game where Kyler played 3 plays)

2022 he was instantly the bright spot with that horrible season. AJ was washed, Rondale wasnt ready/heathy and Brown was out/not as good as we hoped. Hopkins was productive with McCoy. Shut it down when the season was clearly cooked, but Kyler's passer rating went from being in the 80s to closer to 100 when hopkins was on the field.

*this counts the Pats game he was hurt on the 1st drive*

Kyler Murray had a passer rating of 97.0 with 905 yards, 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 5 games with DeAndre Hopkins in 2022.

Hopkins games with Kyler would have put him at 3rd in the NFL. His overall YPG would put him at 10th. The suspension really hurt that season.

2021 While yes Hopkins wasnt dominant his impact on the offense was huge.

In 2021, when playing with DeAndre Hopkins, Kyler Murray had a passer rating of 106.0. This was calculated from 10 games where Hopkins was on the field. His performance with Hopkins was significantly better than when Hopkins was absent, with a 69.2% completion percentage, 278.2 passing yards per game, 8.7 yards per attempt, 19 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions, according to Raising Zona.

2020 Hopkins was 5th in YPG

A true #1 WR was a huge influence on Kyler Murray. It sucks Hopkins didnt stay on the field but his impact was obvious.

And that's a major part of the problem

He's a sandlot guy and not a polished NFL QB

DC's will game plan against him and they have a lot of info to shut him down and frustrate him

Not too many YAC there
At this point, you just want to see him get those contested catches. He really struggled with those last season. The YAC will come. Remember, Fitz struggled with YAC to begin his career.

I like that he also said he feels faster. More muscle and faster--that would be great.
I heard one of the radio guys this morning talking about how at times he felt "out muscled" by opposing players or something to that effect. I hope this makes a difference.
