Marcus Stroman Comments Turn Heads After Yankees Win originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

After two months on the injured list and a brutal rehab stint, New York Yankees pitcher Marcus Stroman needed a bounce-back performance in the worst way possible.

Stroman followed through, throwing five innings of one run-ball against the Athletics in a 12-5 win. The two-time All-Star limited the A’s to three hits on Sunday afternoon, though he walked two and only threw 42 of his 74 pitches for strikes.

Still, it marked the first time Stroman threw five innings since Sept. 10, 2024. Stroman also recorded his first victory in nearly a year, helping the Yankees to a much-needed series win.

So, how did Stroman feel about returning to the mound following left knee inflammation and a dreadful start to 2025?

“I tore my ACL and made it back in five months,” Stroman said, referring to a 2015 injury, “so I don’t do doubt.

“So I knew I’d be back at some point,” Stroman continued, “it was just a matter of when.”

Those are certainly strong comments from a pitcher who has posted -0.3 bWAR and a 4.63 ERA over 169 innings for the Yankees.

Despite Sunday’s strong outing, Stroman’s rotation spot isn’t guaranteed moving forward. Luis Gil could return as soon as late July, and fans shouldn’t be surprised if the Yankees pursue a starting pitcher at the trade deadline.

We’ll see if Stroman accepts a potential return to the bullpen. He’s less than four months removed from publicly insisting he wouldn’t serve as a reliever, though injuries to teammates ensured he maintained his rotation spot.

“It’s been a process, but yeah, I feel good,” Stroman told reporters. “I feel like this was a good building block to the next start.”
