NEW YORK -- Peyton Manning has joined Brett Favre as the only three-time winners of The Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player Award.

The Indianapolis Colts quarterback was a landslide winner Friday in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the NFL. Manning also was the league MVP in 2003, when he shared it with Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair, and in 2004.

Favre, then with Green Bay, took MVP honors in 1995 and '96 before sharing it with Detroit running back Barry Sanders in 1997.

Manning received 32 votes, far ahead of Miami quarterback Chad Pennington and Atlanta running back Michael Turner.

Can't really argue with it, has there ever been such little talk about a team entering the playoffs on a 9 game winning streak? Seems like almost no one is mentioning the Colts as a factor in the AFC, just a little strange. IMO they could come out of the AFC and go to the bowl again.

I would not mind that.

Me either Mulli, one could only imagine a Cards / Colts superbowl with Manning vs. Warner...man that would be fantastic!

I bet on the colts once this year had the colts -7 against a crappy team (Browns I think). They won 10-6 on a defensive touchdown.

9 in a row is 9 in a row they are gettin it done doesn't have to be pretty all the time. Weren't they 3-4 at one point? They are the hottest team heading into the playoffs IMO and wouldn't count them out. They finished 12-4 as a Cards fan we can only dream of that. We wer 7-3 and still managed to barely finish above .500

I think the Colts are going to the Superbowl.

Without their nemesis in the playoffs, their odds are even better.

Can't believe they are arguably a worse running team than we are though.

They lost at home to the Chargers last season. They will most likely need to win three road games to get to the Super Bowl. Not an easy road.

Giants did it last year, and ended up bouncing an undefeated team.

If anyone can do it in these playoffs, I think the Colts can. Then again, I wouldn't have thought the Giants would bust the Cowboys, Packers and Patriots in the playoffs last season.

The Giants defense was all-world last year. In the post season, that will get it done more often than a solid QB/Offense...

I actually would enjoy seeing Manning and the Colts make it this year, however, what happens when teams like the Steelers, Ravens & Tennessee put the clamp-down on that offense??

I just don't see it... I think the chances are better that the Steelers or Titans come out of the AFC.

All i ask is that the cards beat the eagles for the NFC. That would be worth 10 years of trash talking to my family oh that would be soooooooooooooooooooo sweet. I'd marry Whiz if he could make that happen.

Well, the Colts beat Baltimore to stuffings at home, and beat both Pittsburgh and the Chargers on the road, and split with Tennessee.

Colts are my dark horse to win it all.

With Manning, you can never, ever count out the Colts... The Ravens are very suspect with Flacco at QB... The Steelers are questionable as well due to Ben's health issues... It should boil down to Tenn vs Colts for the AFC Championship... Which would be a great game. Manning vs. Collins?? Manning wins that match-up hands down of course. But can the Titans run the ball enough, and can their defense step up and put the clamps on Manning?? Should be interesting...

My viewpoint is somewhat tainted because I think P. Manning is my favorite QB I've ever watched play. Human computer.

I wouldn't be surprised if we had an all-Manning Superbowl this year.

Colts' 9-game winning streak

Winning nine games in a row is always an impressive feat in the NFL. However, the Colts' streak started with four very narrow victories over decent to good teams, and concluded with 5 (mostly) narrow victories over awful teams (plus the Titans resting their starters) - making it a bit less impressive:

Code:
 9 PATRIOTS 18 - 15 W
10 @ Steelers 24 - 20 W
11 TEXANS 33 - 27 W
12 @ Chargers 23 - 20 W
13 @ Browns 10 - 6 W
14 BENGALS 35 - 3 W
15 LIONS 31 - 21 W
16 @ Jaguars 31 - 24 W
17 TITANS 23 - 0 W

Brees and Warner had much better seasons than Manning.

The biggest thing that worked in Manning's favor is that his team actually wanted him to win.
