Amorim, remakably, still has a Europa League final to prepare for - AFP/OLI SCARFF

Twenty years on from one of the most ruinous takeovers in sports history, this is where Manchester United stand: sixteenth in the Premier League, a shell of their former selves and clinging to the hope that a single game can salvage this utter shambles of a season.
It is two decades on Monday since the Glazer family bought United in a hostile £790m takeover and it is genuinely shocking to think what has become of the club.
This was United’s 17th defeat of an atrocious Premier League campaign and you have to go back to the 1973/74 season, when the club were relegated, to find the last time they lost more games in the league.
Ruben Amorim and his sorry bunch of players are just fortunate the bottom three have been so poor. In other seasons United may have found themselves at serious risk of going down.
West Ham had won once on their travels since Boxing Day but this victory – secured courtesy of goals from Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen – saw them leapfrog United, who have now conceded the first goal in 22 of their 36 league matches this term.
The only reason United did not drop to 17th was because their fellow “big six” basket case, Tottenham, lost at home to Crystal Palace.
Spurs, of course, will be United’s opponents in the Europa League final in Bilbao in what is effectively a £100 million shoot-out for silverware, Champions League qualification and the prospect of recovering a modicum of respect from otherwise pitiful campaigns.

That West Ham were inspired here by Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who had a key hand in both goals, summed up United’s afternoon. The full-back, playing on the left as opposed to his favoured right, embarrassed the club that sold him last summer. As for United, this disgraceful display – and that is exactly what it was – was epitomised by Manuel Ugarte in the lead up to West Ham’s second.
Losing possession cheaply under pressure from Wan-Bissaka, the Uruguay midfielder made no attempt to race back to atone, instead just sitting there on his knees before ambling back to his feet. United cannot hope to be successful with players who demonstrate that kind of attitude.

More from Gibbs-White
Speaking to Sky Sports about Forest’s drop-off Gibbs-White said: “It’s been a tough season, very demanding especially when we’ve put ourselves in the positions we have. I can’t put a reason on it. Fatigue? Tiredness? But we can’t make excuses because the fans deserve better.
“We’ve secured Europa League, it’s incredible but we wanted more.
“Our and our fans expectations were Champions League a few games ago. We’ve got two games to go and we have to turn it around.
“None of us have been in this situation before so we handled it well to start with but as it’s got away from us, we haven’t handled it so well. We’re new to it but we still fighting and building as a team and a club.”
On the rest of the season, he said: “We have to look at it in a positive way before realise the opportunity was there for us.
“It’s tough when you’re playing at the top, playing against the best but days like today we should be getting three points.
“It’s frustrating but we continue to be positive and get as many points as possible.”
04:41 PM BST
‘We never really got into the game’, says Postecoglou
Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou, speaking to Sky Sports: “It was disappointing, we never really got into the game and we didn’t control it at any time.
“We’ve handled it well so far, that’s not the issue. The issue is making multiple changes, we aren’t reacting well to that.
“If you think we wouldn’t have 20 league defeats without being in the final, then I don’t know how else to describe it.
On Dejan Kulusevski’s injury, he said: “He should be OK.
“I’m disappointed, it’s clear we’re not anywhere near the level we need to be. We’re making changes and the guys are getting opportunities.”

‘It’s just frustrating’ - Gibbs-White on giving up lead
Speaking to Sky Sports, Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White said: “We put ourselves in the best situation possible. These past three, four games have just not been good enough, not been to our standard.
“We played good with the ball today but we can’t concede two goals like that.
“Especially with our form throughout the season, we’ve been so good at taking the lead and then seeing the game out. It’s just frustrating.”
04:38 PM BST
Soucek dedicates goal to his son
West Ham goalscorer Tomas Soucek to BBC Match of the Day: “It’s always great. I’m so proud of how we played. Last week we played in a similar style and we wanted to show how much we want to play for West Ham. We got three points today and I thought it was fully deserved.
“We were all together and fought for every ball. We had great pressing. When someone went to press others helped him. When somebody lost the ball, we didn’t turn our backs.
“One of my goals is I want to be in the right place at the right moment.
“Three days ago my wife gave birth to my son so I scored the goal for him.
“For us and a new manager it’s so important to get three points.”

United’s Old Trafford woes continue
Manchester United have suffered their ninth home Premier League defeat of the season, their joint-most ever home losses in a single league campaign, according to Opta.

But first... the thoughts of Palace’s magic man Eze
Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze, speaking to Sky Sports:“Good performance. We did everything we needed to do today. Energy and we won our duels. We’re in a good position for next week.
“It’s been a weird season, we gradually got in some rhythm and I’m helping the team as much as I can. Good time right now.
“I don’t think it was comfortable. We had to earn the right to play and score. they were a difficult team to play against. It was tough today, it was hot. We all worked hard, for sure.
On Daniel Munoz: “Incredible player. Incredible energy and a great guy as well. Pleasure playing with him.
On FA Cup final: “It means everything. We have to put ourselves in the best position and today was a good step towards that. we’re confident and we need to do what we do, be the best version of ourselves and anything is possible.”

Where this afternoon’s results leave us
Forest have secured European football but remain in seventh place after their 2-2 draw with Leicester, a point behind Chelsea and Aston Villa in fifth and sixth.
West Ham’s victory over United has seen them climb to 15th, a point ahead of Ruben Amorim’s men who slip to 16th.
The win for Graham Potter’s side also means they have also gone ahead of Spurs, who drop to 17th following their defeat against Palace.
The three points for Oliver Glasner’s men means they can’t finish any lower than their current position of 12th.

90+8 mins: Nottingham Forest 2 Leicester City 2
Leicester break with pace and Vardy is able to tee up Monga on the edge of the box but Sels holds out up strong hand and it goes just wide of the post for a corner.
The delivery is headed away by the hosts.
04:08 PM BST
90+6 mins: Nottingham Forest 2 Leicester City 2
Forest have the corner down their left but Elanga’s cross is easy pickings for Stolarczyk and you get the feeling it’s not going to be their day.
Monga cuts in onto his left foot and looks to curl one into the far corner but it’s just high and wide.
04:06 PM BST
90+1 mins: Manchester United 0 West Ham United 2
There are six minutes added on at Old Trafford. Can they find a way to get back in it?

Awoniyi doesn’t look like he is able to continue but he is sent back on by Nuno with Forest a man light.
04:04 PM BST
90+1 mins: Nottingham Forest 2 Leicester City 2
It’s looking like Anderson is going to be replaced but Awoniyi is really struggling so Nuno delays the change.
Anderson does then make way with Silva on in his place. There will be eight minutes added on for the end of this one.
04:01 PM BST
88 mins: Nottingham Forest 2 Leicester City 2
Elanga is comfortably offside but play is allowed to continue. The winger squares it to Awoniyi who misses the target on the slide but goes crashing into the far post.
03:59 PM BST
82 mins: Tottenham Hotspur 0 Crystal Palace 2
There is a VAR check for a Guehi handball inside the area but replays show it didn’t strike the hand so no penalty.

81 mins: Manchester United 0 West Ham United 2
United are knocking on the door and Hojlund looks certain to get one back as he hammers the ball goalbound from two yards out but Areola gets down to his right and makes a sensational stop.
03:56 PM BST
GOAL! Buonanotte brings Leicester back level
Nottingham Forest 2 Leicester City 2 (Buonanotte) The ball is pinged into the feet of Vardy and he plays a deft flick around the corner to Buonanotte who can take it into the area.
He sells Morato with a dummy before tucking home into the bottom right corner. A fabulous goal from the substitute.
What a huge goal that is in the race for Champion s League football as Forest slip back to seventh.
03:52 PM BST
77 mins: Manchester United 0 West Ham United 2
United create their best chance of the game and it falls to Hojlund as he is played in on goal by Amad but Areola makes the save with his foot.
03:51 PM BST

More changes from van Nistelrooy now and 15-year-old Monga is on along with Kristiansen as Thomas and McAteer get taken off.

03:46 PM BST
73 mins: Nottingham Forest 2 Leicester City 1
Vardy creates the opening for the shot on the edge of the box but gets caught in two minds and plays an overhit through ball out for a goal-kick. He’s really not happy with himself, with a few slaps to his own head following the mistake.
Moments later and Anderson goes into the book for clearing out Buananotte.

If you want an idea of why Manchester United are where they are in the table, watch Ugarte in the lead up to West Ham’s goal. In the first instance, he is unaware of the advancing Wan-Bissaka and turns over possession incredibly easily.
But it’s the reaction that follows that tells you everything about this United. He just sits there on the ground. There is no attempt to get up and race back.
Instead Kudus breezes forwards and shoots. His shot ricochets into the path of Wan-Bissaka who plays the ball back across goal to Bowen to slot home. It is the most pitiful of goals. Ugarte is then taken off.

Forest have the momentum now and the Champions League next season remains tantalisingly in their grasp.
It was goal No. 20 of the season from Chris Wood and a textbook header from the New Zealand international.
The City Ground atmosphere is now dramatically different to the first-half, and Leicester are struggling to repel the pressure.

Some good news for Tottenham. Heung-Min Son had been out for a month with a foot injury, but he’s just replaced Pedro Porro as he looks to work his way back to match fitness in time for the Europa League final. His introduction prompted the biggest cheer from the home fans of the afternoon so far.
03:40 PM BST
63 mins: Tottenham Hotspur 0 Crystal Palace 2
A triple change for Palace as Chilwell, Nketiah and Kamada come on for Lerma, Mateta and Mitchell. A useful lead for Glasner to be able to manage his players’ minutes.
03:38 PM BST
GOAL! Bowen doubles West Ham’s lead
Manchester United 0 West Ham United 2 (Bowen) It goes from bad to worse for the hosts as West Ham double their advantage.
United stop playing, thinking a free-kick will be awarded their way but play goes on and Kudus is able to drive on.
His strike deflects into the path of Wan Bissaka and he squares it to Bowen for a tap in.
03:36 PM BST
60 mins: Tottenham Hotspur 0 Crystal Palace 2
Tottenham should have one back as Porro delivers an excellent cross to the back stick but Sarr heads wide from close range.
A better sight moments later though for the Spurs fans as Son comes on after being out with a foot injury.

What a player Eze is. He can pass, shoot, come short, go direct, the lot. He can cause Manchester City real problems in the FA Cup final next weekend. He is represented by the Base agency and Palace chairman Steve Parish spent half-time in that box deep in conversation with a couple of the Base agents.
03:34 PM BST
61 mins: Nottingham Forest 2 Leicester City 1
Thomas goes into the book for bringing down Elanga and the City Ground is absolutely bouncing.
Elanga’s free-kick is cleared by Faes, though, and Morato is forced into fouling Vardy to stop the counter. He also gets a yellow.
Two changes follow from Van Nistelrooy as Skipp and Ayew make way for Soumare and Buananotte.
03:30 PM BST
GOAL! Forest complete turnaround as Wood heads home
Nottingham Forest 2 Leicester City 1 (Wood) Forest now do have their lead and what a great goal it was. Gibbs-White picks it up on the half turn before delivering a simply sublime cross to the back post.
Wood peels off the Leicester defence and buries a diving header into the bottom left corner.
As it stands, they are up to fifth in the table. A huge goal!
03:28 PM BST
53 mins: Nottingham Forest 1 Leicester City 1
Forest should be ahead as Elanga’s cross drops to Dominguez in the box but he goes for the diving header when he really should have gone with his feet and it’s straight at the keeper.
03:26 PM BST
GOAL! Eze bags brace as Palace double advantage
Tottenham Hotspur 0 Crystal Palace 2 (Eze) Eze plays it out to Sarr with the outside of his foot and the winger returns the favour, teeing it back for the England men to side foot home. A fabulous goal.
03:24 PM BST
48 mins: Tottenham Hotspur 0 Crystal Palace 1
A couple of minutes after coming on, Bissouma goes into the book, perhaps for dissent.
03:23 PM BST
46 mins: Tottenham Hotspur 0 Crystal Palace 1
We are back underway in north London and there is a half-time change to report with Postecoglou sending on Bissouma in place of Bentancur for the second period.
03:22 PM BST
48 mins: Nottingham Forest 1 Leicester City 1
Sangare delivers a sensational cross into the box from the right but Wood can’t get his foot to it while Dominguez is slow to react at the back post and the ball runs all the way through.
03:21 PM BST
46 mins: Manchester United 0 West Ham United 1
The second half is also underway at Old Trafford. Will the home fans have anything to cheer about in this second period?
03:19 PM BST
46 mins: Nottingham Forest 1 Leicester City 1
We are back underway in the East Midlands. Can Forest get themselves ahead and climb into that top five?
03:16 PM BST
As it stands
Forest are remaining in seventh, a point behind Chelsea and Villa, in fifth and sixth, respectively.
Meanwhile, West Ham have climbed over United and Spurs into 15th with the two Europa League finalists occupying the two spots above the drop zone.

Spurs vs Palace: Half-time verdict

Tottenham should really be out of the game. Palace scored, had two goals disallowed and hit the woodwork twice in that first half.
It’s been totally one-sided, but the only thing the home fans will care about is the fitness of Kulusevski. I wonder if that early injury had a psychological impact on the rest of the Spurs team with a final on the horizon.

Forest vs Leicester: Half-time verdict

Forest are far from their free-flowing best but, at this stage, a point will be enough to secure European football next season for the first time since the 1995/96 campaign.
Leicester are clearly relishing the role of pantomime villains and when Conor Coady scored the opening goal, the atmosphere became unbearably tense.
Nuno has opted for Nicolas Dominguez on the left of a midfield three, and it is not working. It perhaps tells us a lot about how much Nuno thinks of wingers Jota Silva and Ramon Sosa, who are both on the bench.
03:07 PM BST
Half-times around the grounds
The half-time whistles are blown around the grounds and it’s all square at Forest while West Ham and Palace both have away leads at United and Spurs, respectively.
The good news for United is that Eze’s goal late on in that first half has taken them from 17th to 16th.

Munoz has been left unmarked pretty much the entire game. It’s been pretty unbelievable that, even with a second-string team, Spurs have done absolutely nothing about it. No surprise at all that he set up Palace’s opening goal.
03:04 PM BST
GOAL! Palace have their goal as Eze taps home
Tottenham Hotspur 0 Crystal Palace 1 (Eze) Moments after having another goal ruled out, this time for handball, Palace do finally have their goal.
Mateta plays a tidy through-ball for Munoz who squares it to Eze for a tap in. A similar move to their disallowed goal earlier on.
Hang on – this is also being checked for offside but the goal does stand!
03:01 PM BST
44 mins: Tottenham Hotspur 0 Crystal Palace 0
Eze goes close to the opener for Palace as he drives inside from the left before letting fly but his effort takes a deflection off Danso and goes a couple of inches wide.
03:00 PM BST
44 mins: Nottingham Forest 1 Leicester City 1
Forest go close as Dominguez has a powerful effort from the edge of the box parried away before Wood heads over the rebound.
It was a tricky chance for the striker, in fairness, with very little time to react.
02:59 PM BST
43 mins: Manchester United 0 West Ham United 1
Hojlund is down with a shoulder issue and is receiving some treatment as United continue to struggle to carve out an opening.
02:56 PM BST
41 mins: Nottingham Forest 1 Leicester City 1
A couple of bookings to report from around the grounds as Bentancur brings Sarr down with the winger breaking down Palace’s right, while over at the City Ground, Skipp trips Anderson on the edge of the box.
From the resulting free-kick, Gibbs-White’s effort sails harmlessly over.

Some more brilliant gallows humour from the 3,000 Leicester fans here at the City Ground.
Chants of “que sera sera, we’re going to Coventry” have just been given an airing, ahead of next season in the Championship.
The prospect of an “M69 derby”, as it is known, is clearly one positive for Leicester fans - if Frank Lampard’s team don’t find a way past Sunderland in their play-off semi-final second leg on Tuesday night.

Mateta wins the ball back for Palace and drives forward before feeding Munoz, who takes aim, but his effort flicks off the top of the crossbar.
Munoz has another great opening, going in on goal, but he looks to square it to Mateta and overhits the pass. The striker was offside as well.
Moments later and another chance goes begging as Hughes pinches it before finding Sarr but the winger’s effort from the right of the box deflects over.
02:46 PM BST
GOAL! Soucek strikes to give West Ham advantage
Manchester United 0 West Ham United 1 (Soucek) Kudus is able to drive into the box and plays a low ball across goal towards Soucek, who taps in for the opener.

Leicester’s fans were chanting “1-0 to the Championship”, but Morgan Gibbs-White’s equaliser should settle Forest nerves.
The atmosphere is incredibly tense and Forest have been struggling to find any sort of rhythm.
With the stakes so high, Forest only need a point to secure a return to European football next season.
It’s clear they are going to do it the hard way.
02:41 PM BST
GOAL! Gibbs-White equalises for Forest
Nottingham Forest 1 Leicester City 1 (Gibbs-White) Thomas gives away the foul on Elanga in the corner, wrestling the winger to the ground.
The former United man whips in an excellent ball from the right on the resulting free-kick and Gibbs-White attacks it well, nodding a header into the ground and into the bottom left corner.

This will worry Spurs fans far more than the result. Kulusevski has gone off following a strong challenge from Marc Guehi. It looked to be a knee injury. Kulusevski was able to walk across the pitch and down the tunnel without looking particularly distressed, so it may have been a precautionary change. Moore is on in his place.
02:35 PM BST
19 mins: Nottingham Forest 0 Leicester City 1
Forest look for the instant response but Gibbs-White’s through-ball for Wood has far too much on it and the home side are yet to settle.
As it stands, they would remain two points out of the Champions League spots with two games to go.
02:32 PM BST
GOAL! Coady gives Leicester the lead at Forest
Nottingham Forest 0 Leicester City 1 (Coady) Forest initially clear the long throw but the ball lands with El Khannouss and he lets fly with a fierce half-volley from, the edge of the area.
Sels is down well to make the save but Coady is following up to nod home and that is a massive goal in the race for European football.

Tottenham Hotspur 0 Crystal Palace 0 (Sarr) It looks like we have our first goal of the three games this afternoon as Palace appear to take the lead at Tottenham.

Leicester’s gameplan in the opening half an hour is already obvious - keep the match disjointed, the fans quiet and disrupt momentum.
Forest have started well, with chants for Steve Cooper from the home supporters echoing around the City Ground.
Cooper, if we remember, was sacked by Leicester after just 12 Premier League matches with the club outside the bottom three.

Another chance for Wood and this one is a golden opportunity. Elanga beats his man down the right and picks the striker out with an excellent cross to the back post.
He looks to direct it back to the far corner but heads over from close range. A massive chance!
02:19 PM BST
4 mins: Tottenham Hotspur 0 Crystal Palace 0

Forest win an early corner down their left and, after Elanga removes a beach ball from the pitch, Stolarczyk is able to punch clear.

Amorim has gone strong

Despite Ruben Amorim suggesting his focus was on “protecting” his key players ahead of the Europa League final on Wednesday week, the United head coach has gone strong against West Ham. Perhaps that reflects the significance of the game more than anything - lose and United will be leapfrogged by West Ham and drop to 17th position if Spurs avoid defeat to Crystal Palace.
West Ham’s starting XI contains Jean-Clair Todibo - the France defender on loan from Nice that United were blocked from signing under Uefa’s multi-club ownership rules. Sir Jim Ratcliffe remember is the majority shareholder at Nice as well as being a co-owner at United.

The City Ground has proved a potent weapon since Forest’s return to the Premier League.
Yet in the last few home games there has been a clear air of anxiety, with defeats against Everton and Brentford.
Nuno Espirito Santo had a message for the club’s supporters ahead of this East Midlands derby against Leicester.
“It’s been quiet and everyone can feel it,” he said. “We understand it but it doesn’t help.
“We would rather have noise. Noise helps more. My message to the fans would be: make the noise.”

United are wearing special shirts today. Instead of their usual front of shirt sponsor Snapdragon, United’s jerseys are emblazoned with the (RED) logo as the club bids to drive support and height awareness about health injustice.
Red was founded in 2006 by U2 frontman Bono and Bobby Shriver to fight Aids by partnering with iconic brands and people to create products and experiences that raise money and raise awareness around global health injustice. The initiative with United was announced as the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this year. As part of its shirt deal with United, Qualcomm/Snapdragon can nominate a charitable organisation to replace the Snapdragon logo.
One of the mascots at Old Trafford today is a 12-year-old girl called Lubona Mudenda from Lusaka in Zambia who is living proof of (RED)’s mission in action. Lubona’s mother, Connie, a long-time (RED) ambassador, was diagnosed with HIV in 2004 but thanks to life-saving antiretroviral medication, her daughter was born HIV free. Connie Mudenda had previously lost three children to HIV.

Vardy the ‘upsetter’ ready to ride again

Jamie Vardy’s farewell tour of the Premier League with Leicester City continues this afternoon.

Jamie Vardy would love to dent Nottingham Forest’s hopes of returning to the old European Cup – a tournament they won twice, which is one more time than they have ever won the league championship - PA/Mike Egerton
The former England international will leave at the end of this season and has a special reason to end the campaign on a high. Vardy is one goal away from 200 in all competitions for Leicester and you sense the stage is set for him to be a pest today.
With Leicester’s season over and proving such a bitter disappointment, Vardy would like nothing more than to secure his record against the local rivals and put a dent in their Champions League aspirations. Upsetting the odds is all he’s ever done in his career.

Welcome to the ‘Steve Cooper derby’

A wonderful day at the City Ground for the Steve Cooper derby. Nottingham Forest are experiencing a mini-wobble at the business end but a win today will lift them back into the Champions League places.
Leicester were relegated three weeks ago and manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is facing an uncertain future with no clarity on his position. It was not so long ago that Leicester were fighting in these types of situations, but it is Forest today who will be determined to get their European mission back on track.

Forest eye promised land... United and Spurs expected to take it easy
Good afternoon and welcome to Telegraph Sport’s live, minute-by-minute Premier League clockwatch on a crucial day in the race for Champions League football as Nottingham Forest host East Midlands rivals Leicester City.
Meanwhile, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur will be riding high after reaching the Europa League final with respective home games against fellow bottom-half sides West Ham United and Crystal Palace.
Depending on the result in the game between Newcastle United and Chelsea, who are currently in action at St James’ Park, Forest, who started the day in seventh, could climb back into the top five with victory this afternoon.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are in dire need of a win over their local rivals to keep their Champions League hopes alive and kicking after picking up just one win in their last five league games.
For Spurs and United, their priorities for the remainder of the season are almost entirely devoted to the Europa League final on May 21, meaning rotation is likely this afternoon after their semi-final victories in the week, but you feel Ange Postecoglou and Ruben Amorim will be wary of finishing the afternoon one place above the relegation zone.
It is currently just West Ham acting as a buffer between the two sides and the drop zone, and with Graham Potter’s men within touching distance of the pair, victory for the east London side at Old Trafford could see them leapfrog both of the ‘big six’ teams.
That depends, of course, on how Crystal Palace fare at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but with victory guaranteeing Oliver Glasner’s side a minimum 12th-place finish, there is plenty of motivation for three points this afternoon ahead of next Saturday’s FA Cup final.
