Little known fact: we actually had 3 first round picks this year.

Most people got so upset about Calvin Pace that they forgot about this other kid we just drafted. Big dude from Wisconsin, #91. The name's Bryant. Not Bryant Johnson, the other Bryant.

He was a redshirt last season.......didn't get into Spring Practice, missed the first couple games. Played a little at the end of last season but didn't do much.

Calvin Pace isn't the only new guy on that line who can improve the pass rush.

Very true ED. I am hoping Bryant will improve or (prove) he was a good pick. Last year was not a fair assesment being that he missed so much time!

Good point Ed.

We have 4 young pass rushers to work with, possibly five
DJ, Pace, Bryant, KVB, and possibly Alton Moore.

Hopefully we can get some semblance of a pass rush....

I've never seen a first round pick get totally forgotten about so quickly. i don't think I even saw his name on this board in the last month.

With a full offseason and camp under his belt, this guy could be dynamite. He's got plenty of talent.

your post has captured the essence of my thinking regarding the improvement in the defense--

Wendell with a training camp and a year under his belt

Dennis Johnson with a year in the weight room

A healthy Levar Fisher

A fully healthy KVB

Adrian Wilson with another year of experience

That is 5 of your starting 11 that should be better with experience....should being the key word

Dont forget a fully healthy Wilson. The shoulder injury stick around with you for at least 6 months, I had the same exact injury in high school. Wilson should have been out for the whole year if he was any other player. So add the list of improvements a Fully Healthy Wilson, and a fully healthy Starks(now if he can just stay that way).

Several of us have been saying for months if Wendell and DJ improve as expected we might not need Suggs. Johnson MIGHT have been a first rounder this year if he'd have stayed in school, in fact he almost certainly would have based on where people went in the draft.

Is he better off now with NFL coaching, competition and training camp? Or would he have been better off with the playing experience?

I remember a thread a way back where s11 got us all worked into a frenzy that kind of made me settle down about the whole pass rush thing (umm... not that I didn't freak out on Saturday in the first round when we traded or anything... ;) ) Its true - KVB is going to explode this year, he's had the time to recover and get that burst back. D-John should be better and stronger this year. Bryant can only get better. Pace can only help this group.

He is a St. Louisan who has made it to the top. Many here in STL are hoping that Wendell rebounds from his dismal first year.

I wasn't implying anything about a Super Bowl!

All I'm saying is that if guys improve, we could have a hell of a pass rush.

But beware....if they don't improve (and no one under Mean Joe ever seems to) we're looking at 5-11 again :(

Anyone ever notice (or mention) that the Cards most successful season in Az just happened to be the one where the team seemed to suffer the fewest injuries? I'm taliking about '98 of course, and I long for another when the team is relatively healthy.

Yeah!...

Everyone forgets, 1999 v Minnesota preseason. The end of the dream of Rob Moore, David Boston and Frank Sanders.

Plus Plummer's career ruining(imho) hand injuries.

I, for one, am looking forward to having a bunch of talented, hungry young WR's. Competition is good. Same with some of our defensive line. Who's gonna start? W.Bryant? Bell? Dwyer? KVB? Johnson? King? Pace? Wakefield?

Nice looking YOUNG rotation.

All I care is that we finally start sacking the QB. I honestly believe that begins up front but ends with the lb's and secondary.

Nice young rotation is right, but do we have a difference maker?

I like all these players but the reality of sports is that there has to be talent along with the try-hard attitude, because no amount of balls/effort/playing hard is going to make KVB a 15 sack player who the other team panics about and has to gameplan around.
