Dillon Thieneman declared for the NFL draft on Jan. 14. Thieneman was a standout safety for the Oregon Ducks last season, and at Purdue prior to that. For a Lions team that has major health issues at the safety position, using a high selection on a safety is very possible.
Thieneman's health history looks clean with a record of reliability. He has played in every game the past three seasons.
There are reports that he had an MCL tear in high school but that would not be a concern at this point.
Thieneman registered 92 tackles, five passes defended, a pair of interceptions and one sack last season with the Ducks. The 6-foot, 205-pound safety is currently rated as ESPN's No. 2 safety in the 2026 NFL draft class.
