Dillon Thieneman declared for the NFL draft on Jan. 14. Thieneman was a standout safety for the Oregon Ducks last season, and at Purdue prior to that. For a Lions team that has major health issues at the safety position, using a high selection on a safety is very possible.

NEWS: Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman is leaving school early to declare for the NFL Draft, he tells ESPN. He’s one of the NFL Draft’s top safeties and a projected Top 50 pick. Thieneman earned first-team All-Big Ten honors in 2025 and second-team All-American honors. pic.twitter.com/yb4hEPK1lZ

Thieneman's health history looks clean with a record of reliability. He has played in every game the past three seasons.

  • 2025 (Oregon): Played 15 games
  • 2024 (Purdue): Played 12 games
  • 2023 (Purdue): Played 12 games

There are reports that he had an MCL tear in high school but that would not be a concern at this point.

Thieneman registered 92 tackles, five passes defended, a pair of interceptions and one sack last season with the Ducks. The 6-foot, 205-pound safety is currently rated as ESPN's No. 2 safety in the 2026 NFL draft class.
