In 'F1,' Brad Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former Formula One driver who teams up with hotshot rookie Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) to revive a failing F1 team.

Seven-time World Champion and Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton signed on as a producer of the film, helping ensure the authenticity of the racing world, including assessing Pitt's driving abilities.

The high-speed racing film, which includes footage from real F1 events like the 62nd Rolex 24 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach and scenes shot at Pappas Drive-In & Family Restaurant in New Smyrna Beach, has a flashy $300 million price tag associated with it, though those involved in the production have come out to say the total is "inaccurate."

Even flashier are the numbers attached to the biggest F1 drivers like Hamilton. A new study by Spine Genie analyzes the 2024 F1 season data to estimate just how much F1's real drivers earn and just how quickly they make the average North American salary.

It is reported that Lewis Hamilton makes an appearance in the 'F1' movie, however his role as a producer on the film is where he shines.

Director Joseph Kosinski has said Hamilton was "instrumental" to the movie-making process and was involved in the project "from the early stages."

Is the 'F1' movie based on a true story?

No, 'F1,' which follows former F1 driver Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) in his comeback story as he partners APXGP team rookie Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) movie is not based on a true story.

However, real F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, who is a producer on the film, was very involved in the project and helped ensure the authenticity of the film, especially in gauging Pitt’s driving abilities and with training. (Pitt actually gets behind the wheel during the film.)

Kosinski credits Hamilton for his role in the project, saying "We couldn't have made this film without him.”

“Lewis was instrumental in not only the technical aspects obviously, but in the real kind of formulative stage of the movie, formulating this narrative,” Kosinski said in a news release. “We tell the story of Sonny Hayes, who's kind of [a] veteran racer, and then Joshua Pierce, who's a rookie.

“Lewis has been both. He's been the rookie almost winning his first season in Formula 1 and now with seven World Championships. He's kind of seen it all.
