The Los Angeles Lakers couldn't complete their comeback attempt as they suffered a 116-104 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 3 of their first-round matchup on Friday at Target Center.
The Timberwolves stayed composed amid the Lakers' rally in the fourth quarter and closed out the game to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Jaden McDaniels scored a playoff career-high 30 points on 13-of-22 shooting to lead Minnesota. Anthony Edwards had 29 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, while Julius Randle added 22 points, five rebounds and four assists.
The Lakers stayed afloat despite Luka Doncic struggling due to a stomach illness, with LeBron James tallying a game-high 38 points, including three three-pointers in the final period. His effort, however, wasn't enough.

After the game, he admitted that they shot themselves in the foot, as reported by ESPN's Dave McMenamin.
"LeBron James said the Lakers' turnovers decided the game," wrote McMenamin on X. "He pointed to the Wolves' 91 shots and the Lakers' 78 shots: 'That's pretty much the game right there.'"
The Timberwolves scored 28 points off the Lakers' 19 turnovers, including five from Doncic. Minnesota also had a 30-point advantage in points in the paint, 56-26.
“They’re big, they’re long, they’re athletic, they pressure the basketball, they make everything tough,” said Lakers coach JJ Redick in a report from the Associated Press. “We’re going to have some turnovers.”
Doncic scored 17 points but missed 10 of his 16 shots. He also had seven rebounds and eight assists. He tied the game at 103 with 4:37 left in the final period but that was the closest they got.
The Lakers will try to even things up in Game 4 on Sunday.
