This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with retired All-Pro offensive lineman and CBS Sports analyst Kyle Long.
In his interview with Easton Jr., Long discussed his role as a remote analyst for NFL Christmas Gameday on Netflix today.
"I will be on the desk with Scott Hanson in Los Angeles, and it'll go out to the rest of the world. Obviously, many people will be watching on Netflix. Every single time you see one of those guys run on the field with the orange gloves and say, TV timeout, or the players get a breather, they'll throw it back to the studio," said Long, "Scott and I will be covering all the happenings from that drive, looking ahead, all the storylines you could think of. Obviously, as people watch, they will try to interact. We'll have multiple opportunities to engage in back-and-forth with people around the world. It's a dream come true for me; Christmas and football are always synonymous, just as Thanksgiving is. Nobody does it like Netflix."
Long, a former Kansas City Chiefs player, discussed the Detroit Lions-Minnesota Vikings matchup, which carries postseason implications for Detroit in the NFC North.
"You've got to keep in mind this Lions team, they went from winless to the bullies to now, you know, middle of the pack, and I think it's almost poetic, because I feel like a Dan Campbell team is not supposed to be at the top of the heap," said Long, "They're supposed to be scratching and clawing their way in. I believe this aligns with the 'MO' (Main Objective) in Detroit. We've got to earn it. We've got to scratch and claw."
Kansas City notably defeated Detroit earlier this season in Week 6 at Arrowhead Stadium, while the Vikings will play spoiler as hosts of the second game of the doubleheader.
"The Minnesota Vikings. I mean, I don't know if you're on social media, but there's been a lot of memes about the Minnesota Vikings, particularly their young quarterback, and what I've seen is that the defense has rallied around this guy. "The protectors on the offensive side rally around this guy," said Long. "You take a look around the NFC North, and the Bears and the Packers are the two teams most likely to make the playoffs. These two teams are fighting for respect, and they know that next year starts now, especially for a guy like J.J. McCarthy. We know how good their coach is. We know about their defense, but the one big question mark is that quarterback. So we're going to find out more about that on Christmas."
