Kevin Durant Reportedly Wanted Suns to Trade Him to Two NBA Title Contenders in February originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Phoenix Suns will trade future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant this offseason. The Houston Rockets, Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs are the three teams Durant wants to play for, with the Spurs at the top of his list.

However, since Durant doesn't have a no-trade clause in his contract, the Suns can trade the 15-time All-Star anywhere.

Phoenix nearly traded Durant back to the Golden State Warriors at the February NBA trade deadline before Durant made it known behind the scenes that he didn't want to return to Golden State.

KD played three seasons with the Warriors. He won back-to-back championships and Finals MVPs in 2017 and 2018.

A top 75 player of all time, Durant may not have wanted to get traded to the Warriors in February, but he was open to getting sent to the Boston Celtics or New York Knicks, according to Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports.

"There were rumblings at the trade deadline KD wanted to land with the Celtics or Knicks," O'Connor wrote. "New York’s interest reportedly isn’t mutual anymore. Boston’s cap sheet and trajectory make that scenario highly unlikely."

The Celtics lost to the Knicks in the second round of this year's playoffs in six games, while New York lost to the Indiana Pacers in the conference finals in six games.

The Knicks fired Tom Thibodeau as head coach despite reaching the conference finals this year for the first time since 2000.

Durant and the Suns missed the playoffs and play-in tournament in 2025. A four-time scoring champion, Durant played in 62 games this season. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from beyond the arc and 83.9% from the free-throw line.

It will be fascinating to see where Durant is playing next season. The NBA icon has played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and Suns.
