LAWRENCE — Kansas baseball has earned its way back into the top 25 of the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll, and sits at No. 25 heading into the Big 12 Conference tournament this week.

Kansas (42-14, 20-10 in Big 12) is in the midst of a five-game winning streak, including a road sweep against then-No. 17 West Virginia. WVU dropped to No. 23 in the latest poll update Monday. They are the only two Big 12 teams in the top 25.

Kansas now looks ahead to the Big 12 tournament, which will take place this week at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. The Jayhawks are the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will first play in the quarterfinals on Thursday against either No. 7-seed Oklahoma State or No. 10-seed Baylor. Earlier this season, Kansas swept Oklahoma State at home and won a series at home against Baylor, too.

How well the Jayhawks perform at the Big 12 tournament will do a lot to determine just how high of a seed in one of the four-team, NCAA regionals they could receive. Heading into the West Virginia series it looked as if Kansas would be a No. 3 seed, with the potential of a rise to No. 2. Whatever seed KU ends up with, it’s set to reach its first NCAA tournament since 2014.
