Quarterback Justin Herbert returned to practice on Thursday following surgery earlier in the week to repair a fractured bone in his left, non-throwing hand. His status remains day-to-day for the Chargers' Week 14 matchup against the Eagles on Monday Night Football.

Herbert was seen at practice throwing while wearing a cast/brace on his left hand.

This comes a day after Herbert was present for a non-contact walkthrough but did not participate in full practice, with backup Trey Lance taking the first-team reps.

On Wednesday, Herbert revealed that the doctors put a plate and a few screws into his hand to stabilize the bone. He mentioned that the doctors were happy with how the procedure went and emphasized that he is preparing as if he is playing on Monday.

Earlier in the week, head coach Jim Harbaugh expressed optimism that Herbert would play. Offensive coordinator Greg Roman shared those exact words at his media availability on Thursday.

"For this game in particular, we're really optimistic Justin's going to play."

Roman added that Lance will be ready, especially if he's called upon to handle reps under center. Herbert did say that they would test snaps under center later in the week.
