Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler:

Kind of a long article with other stuff from around the league as well.

"the growing sense around the league is that, even if they miss the playoffs and get to the end of the season without Murray proving he can be their QB of the future, the Cardinals are likely to give Gannon and GM Monti Ossenfort a chance to stick around and pick their own QB."

I wish I could say we're making the playoffs, simply not going to happen considering having the toughest schedule left. Monti & Gannon should get at least 2-3 years with a QB they choose imo. Most everyone on this board, Myself included hated our offense under Petzing, until Jacoby became the starter, he's proven it works, that is if your QB can see over the OL lol. Jacoby may not be a top QB but he's proven he can run the Petzing offense, he's tough, can see the field, makes the right reads & will stand in the pocket & take a hit, all things Kyler can't or won't do. It's a no brainer to sit Kyler the rest of the season & then trade him in the off season, 7 years is proof enough that he ain't it.

I am still on the fence about terming the FO and coaches. If Monti and JG get fired it wouldn't be unfair because they both came in raving about KM so in essence they did pick their QB.
Now if they told Mikey they will do their best to get KM where he needs to be....

Maybe they realized that he was the current QB with a huge contract & raving about him was the best thing to do at that time? If I had to guess, I'd say that there were private conversations with Bidwill about "what happens if he can't run this offense"? I would like to think no new regime would come in with a QB they didn't hand pick, & not have discussions about bringing in their guy, if the other guy doesn't work out. Us as fans will never know how any possible discussions went down. You may be right though, maybe they told Bidwill we'll do our best to make this work with Kyler? I wonder how long it took them to say "Kyler isn't our guy"? Lol.

The rebuild has taken too long. Monti had several screwups early on. JG learned slowly on the job.

That said, I want to see how the team responds and plays the rest of the season with Jacoby. I think the team must go at least 6 and 3 with a tough schedule.

So they should. Yes they took the job knowing they were saddled with Kyler and did their best to turn him around, but ultimately that was impossible and they shouldn't pay the price for it.

They should have made the playoffs last year had Kyler not stunk post November (as usual) and would have made it this year if we had a better QB in that 5 game stretch of losing by single scores.

exactly...no coach orr GM is going to come out and say publicly, "yeah, this guy aint NFL material. But the previous GM screwed us with the deal he gave him so the owner wants us to just run with this guy and see if we can make it work"

of course..if you read this board...you can tell thats exactly what the fans expected them to say. because keeping a positive spin in order to keep team morale and confidence up is just bald face lying and they should be fired just for that alone.......

Well, we did have a better in your eyes QB for two of those losses

Kyler didn’t force Demarcado to drop the ball a quarter second before scoring

Kyler didn’t force Gannon and Rallis to turtle up on Defense in the 4th quarter in multiple games

Kyler didn’t force Petzing to call a more open offense
In the first 3/4 and then turtle up in the fourth quarter game after game

Kyler did not force Monti to neglect the offensive line

Certainly possible but do they change other coaches.

Bottom line--- you need to score points in the NFL to win games. Brissett is better than Kyler so that means the Kyler era is over. Let Petzig, Gannon, and Monti cook with a new QB. One that is preferably taller than 5'7"

I’m stunned people are still thinking Ossenfort is in trouble. He finally gets all his staffing and evaluation people in place then proceeds to have one of the best Cardinal drafts ever. This response would be crazy.

This is a wild thing to say after one game TBH.

And a smart GM/Coach should have know that after watching 1.5 years of Kyler and cut bait this past offseason, when they had the chance and ability to go out and get their own guy.

They shouldn’t get 2-3 more extra years because they punted on their first season, saw their second season derailed by Kyler and then decided… hey… let’s let him derail the next season too!

And this ain’t hindsight… a lot of us (including you I think) were begging for the Cards to finally move on from Kyler after last season usually second half of the season debacle. Not doing so when they could have WITH options in both FA and the draft available should be more dirt on the Monti/Gannon grave, not reason for resurrection. Giving them more years for lacking easy foresight that destroyed this season is just rewarding failure.

Both sides are premature.
