Joey Logano left Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday and, surprisingly, the main storyline about the three-time Cup Series champion wasn’t his race finish, but his explosive profanity-laced tirade directed at Penske teammate Austin Cindric at the end of Stage 2.
The rant unexpectedly received even more exposure after the race when Baseball Hall of Famer Chipper Jones took to social media and blasted Logano’s behavior.
“Congrats to @AustinCindric on his @TALLADEGA win. Good teammates are hard to come by, Boss!" Jones wrote. "Remember that one of urs MFed u on national tv, when in all actuality, u did everything possible to keep from wrecking him. Hate to be #dueces in the ‘team’ meeting on Monday. Some people are ‘hooray for our team as long as I’m the star’ as every team has them. Hendrick, RCR, JGR, Penske, etc. Sometimes karma is glorious. Enjoy this one! In case anyone is confused, lemme be clear….@joeylogano”

On Tuesday, the 34-year-old driver made his weekly appearance on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio for his "Behind the Wheel" segment and addressed what the former baseball star had to say about him.
“I did not have Chipper Jones and Joey Logano on my Bingo card for Sunday night about him kind of chiming in,” show co-host Pete Pistone said. “I'm sure you saw that. I mean, what do you make of someone like that, kind of, quite frankly, giving you a little bit of the business there about the way you kind of said some things on the radio on Sunday, Joey?
“You're catching me off guard here,” Logano replied. “I have no idea what you're talking about. I did not see it.”
After Pistone explained what Jones had said on X, the driver offered a response.
“Has Chipper Jones ever driven a race car at Talladega? Would be my first question,” the No. 22 pilot said. “Pretty certain he hasn’t. That's like me saying something about baseball. I know nothing about baseball. That's like me saying something that he did something in baseball that was wrong. Like it doesn't matter. You know what I mean?
“You care about what people say, like their opinion, if you really know them and they know you and they understand the scenario and the situation. Everyone's gonna have their opinion on how they see things from the outside. No one else. Nobody. Chipper Jones. No race fans. Nobody is in the room when we come up with how we're gonna race at superspeedways except the drivers, the team principals at Penske and the crew chiefs. That is it. That's the only opinions that matter. The only ones.
"So everyone can go off and talk about whatever they want. They don't know the situation. They don't know everything that goes into it. So it doesn't matter what they say and that's probably why I never saw it or really care about it. Even after you tell me right now.”
Logano and the Cup drivers won't have another superspeedway race until August at Daytona. Up next is Sunday's race at Texas Motor Speedway, with race coverage beginning at 3:30 p.m. on FS1.
