I listened to it. He said nothing I haven't said here. He talked a lot about JJ playing 5 technique with an OLB outside him which as I've said he did at the Texans on 1st down. Considering we only play 3 man fronts with a 5 tech on 1st downs it's not going to be any different. Unless they go nuts and say were just going to play base every down so we can have JJ at 5 tech. Which they won't.

Well...Vance took over in 2019 and the Cardinals were #2 in the NFL in base defense usage at 38%. The previous year in Denver, Vance's defense was #1 at 45%. 2017, Denver was #5 but still at 41%. Looks like Vance uses base more than just on first downs.
btw: for football scheme junkies -- on the Cards Big Red Rage podcast, Vance talked specifics on his scheme -- i almost want to re-listen with a whiteboard and sketch things out just to try to understand
Haven't listened but here is some basics if you are asking about alignment. --5-4--3--2--1-0--1--2--3--4--5--6--7 ----LT----LG----C----RG----RT----TE Essentially odd numbers are the gaps and even numbers are head up over the lineman. There are also EYE alignments like 1-EYE (or shade) which is an alignment over the eye of the player. So, if you here that Watt will be playing a 3 technique, it means he will be aligned in the 3 gap or between the G and T.
