Utah Jazz coach Will Hardy said Monday that the injury that limited rookie Ace Bailey on Monday against the Dallas Mavericks is considered to be a minor issue.
Bailey was limited to 10 minutes, 44 seconds in the first half of the 114-101 loss at the Delta Center before the team ruled him out of returning due to bilateral knee soreness. He finished with three points, one rebound and one steal as the starting shooting guard.
The fifth pick received treatment upon exiting the contest, as the team felt it was best to tend to the issue, which Hardy said won't require further medical testing.
“He has got some tendonitis in both knees," Hardy said, via Andy Larsen of the Salt Lake Tribune. "It is nothing that we’re overly concerned with. He is not going to be getting imaged or anything like that. It is just trying to take care of him. He was a little sore during his second stint.”
Bailey is averaging 16 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.3 assists on 41.7% shooting from 3-point range in three preseason games. He recorded 20 points in his first two appearances, including a 25-point effort on Oct. 8 in a loss to the Houston Rockets.
The 19-year-old is highly touted for his size, overall skill set and ability to impact games on both ends of the court. He has showcased those traits early on, along with his high-level shot-making and ability with the ball in the open court.
With the Jazz wrapping up their preseason slate on Thursday, they will likely be cautious with Bailey and not risk further injury ahead of the regular-season opener on Oct. 22. The team was excited to add him in the draft and will look to ensure a healthy season ahead.
