Jay-Z bet $1,000,000 against Indiana Pacers originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
As sports betting sweeps the nation, celebrities and streamers have gotten in on the action, often wagering hundreds of thousands of dollars as an entertainment stunt.
With the sporting world tuned in to the NBA Finals, the Oklahoma City Thunder were massive favorites, although the Indiana Pacers have taken a 2-1 lead in the series and will look to run away with the series on Friday night in front of their home fans.
Drake is usually the highest-profile celebrity associated with reckless bets, although Jay-Z, an avid Brooklyn Nets fan, is no stranger to the gambling scene.
He bet $1 million on the Thunder to win the series in five games at +230 odds. His bet would have hit for $3.3 million, although the Pacers prevented that from happening in just the third game of the series.
The Thunder opened the series with -700 odds to win the Finals, and those odds have since shifted to -230, with the Pacers having +190 odds to win. If Hova bet another million on the Pacers to win the series, he would take home $1.9 million in winnings, although the series is far from over.
The -700 odds the Thunder had to open the series were the exact same as the Los Angeles Lakers had in 2004, when Ben Wallace and the Detroit Pistons shocked them in five games. The Pacers are hoping to be on the same level in terms of legendary upsets, and after taking two early wins in the series, it's easy to envision them hoisting the trophy.
