Jason Licht has been making the rounds with the media since the 2025 NFL Draft ended. In his latest stop with 95.2 WDAE, he spoke about their selection of David Walker.

In the interview about the draft process, draft picks, and their procedures, he spoke very highly about one draft pick in particular: fourth-round edge rusher David Walker from Central Arkansas. So much so that Licht referred to Walker as his “favorite player in the draft” and that he nearly traded up to get him even sooner than the 4th round.

In fact, the Bucs general manager went on to say that he had to be nearly talked out of trading up by other members of the draft team because he was afraid he’d be picked before he had a chance to take him. Those familiar with him shouldn’t be surprised by Jason Licht loving a small school prospect, as he’s drafted many an offensive lineman from FCS and even division three universities, such as Cody Mauch, Alex Cappa, and Ali Marpet.

Walker’s production speaks for itself with 30 sacks and four forced fumbles in his 3-year collegiate career, spearheaded by his quick first step and relentless motor. Licht hopes he’s found another diamond at the FCS level; his track record leans towards this being another hit.
