In a move that'll add more cornerback depth, the Eaglesacquired cornerback Jakorian Bennett from the Raiders for Thomas Booker.
Bennett became the odd man out in a cornerback rotation that includes second-year cover guy Darien Porter, Eric Stokes, and Decamerion Richardson. Bennett impressed during the preseason and made the 53-man roster, and we'll likely have a key role this season.
In the Eagles' first practice after revealing the 53-man roster, Bennett was in the No. 41, switching from the No. 49 after Darius Cooper switched to the No. 80.
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was asked about Bennett competing for the No. 2 cornerback job opposite Quinyon Mitchell. After watching Kelee Ringo and Adoree' Jackson struggle this preseason, Fangio didn't rule anything out.
Now that Eli Ricks has been released from the practice squad, Bennett is now No. 23 for the Eagles ahead of the showdown with Dallas.
The 5-foot-10, 200-pound Bennett enters his third NFL season out of Maryland. The 24-year-old was a fourth-round pick of the Raiders in 2023. Last season, Bennett started seven of the 10 games that he played at outside cornerback and finished with eight passes defensed. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed just 45 percent of pass attempts in his direction to be completed (third best in the league among players with 250+ coverage snaps). Quarterbacks posted a passer rating of just 57.9 and had zero touchdowns against him.
Bennett was the Raiders’ best corner in the 10 games he played last year, but he’s struggled to stay healthy in his first two seasons, and according to The Athletic, he saw his reps dwindle with the hiring of Pete Carroll.
