John Oehser of Jaguars.com recently made an interesting note regarding the Jacksonville Jaguars roster. On the team site, the offensive linemen are not listed by a specific position, whether that be guard, center, or tackle. Instead, they are all listed as offensive linemen.

Very early on in Liam Coen's tenure as head coach, he made it clear that the offensive line play for the Jaguars had to improve this season. And with that, we've seen GM James Gladstone reshape that room by making four free agent signings, along with two more additions in the NFL draft.

In addition to bringing in a number of new players, there was an obvious emphasis on versatility as well. Whether it be playing both sides of the line or multiple positions, there is versatility throughout this new-look Jaguars offensive line, and with that comes options and added competition.

Along the offensive line and throughout the roster, as Liam Coen described, a lot of the starting positions are not predetermined at this time. Rather, competition will determine who gets those reps.

"It's rep-to-rep, honestly," Coen said via the team site. "It's rack-to-rack is really kind of what we talk about. Getting guys in with the ones in the first rack and then slide them in with the twos with the next rack, and try to give guys opportunities, knowing they're not truly getting judged and graded on the competition right now.

"We always want to compete in everything that we're doing, but ultimately, it's about trying to create that continuity at times within the system, within the offense and defense, and the calls."

Consistent success for any offense is going to start with strong play up front. A good offensive line provides a running game to lean on and time in the pocket for the quarterback to go through his progressions.

As OTAs turn into training camp, we may see a lot of mixing and matching when it comes to offensive line combinations as the Jaguars search for their best five.

"There's really no, 'Hey, these are the starters that are going to be out there first game against Carolina [in Week 1],'" added Coen. "Do you have some ideas [about who will start]? Sure, but ultimately, there is a lot of competition that will occur, especially throughout this offseason and as we get into training camp."
