Insider Provides Intriguing Michael Mayer Update Amid Raiders Trade Rumors originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Michael Mayer's Las Vegas Raiders future immediately came into question after the team decided to draft Brock Bowers in the first round of last year's draft. The team decided to keep him, and the plan was to utilize a lot of 12 personnel to take advantage of both of their skill sets.

However, Mayer ended up missing six games due to a personal issue and was never able to get into a rhythm. Prior to the draft, The Athletic reported that the Raiders were open to trading the former second-round pick.

A deal hasn't materialized, and Mayer seems keen on proving his worth.

According to Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Mayer has been one of the biggest standouts in OTAs thus far.

"Mayer, 23, has 48 catches for 460 yards and two touchdowns his first two seasons. This year, however, he could take another step," Bonsignore wrote.

"Mayer has shown up in tremendous shape and has been a standout at OTAs so far. It helps that he has a new quarterback in Geno Smith and offensive coordinator in Chip Kelly."

Kelly recently had some very high praise for Mayer and suggested that he has plans to utilize him on the field with Bowers.

“I checked, you can play with two tight ends in a game at the same time,” Kelly told reporters in a recent press conference. “And sometimes you can play with three tight ends, they told me.”

Mayer was highly touted coming out of Notre Dame, and it was a surprise he wasn't a first-round pick in 2023. The Raiders are thin at wide receiver, so having two tight ends making plays could do wonders for the offense.
