With free agency and the NFL draft behind us and NFL rosters largely set, what grade did the Indianapolis Colts receive from CBS Sports for their offseason?
Tyler Sullivan is going division-by-division and heading out grades for each team, taking into account who was signed, re-signed, drafted, and let go.
When it comes to the Colts, Sullivan wasn't overly impressed with the work that GM Chris Ballard did, giving Indianapolis a C+ overall.
"While the Colts did a good job fixing the secondary, I have some serious questions about the offensive line," wrote Sullivan. "Despite losing Ryan Kelly and Will Fries in free agency, they didn't take a lineman until the fourth round (Jordan Travis, OT, Iowa State)."
Free agents Charvarius Ward and Cam Bynum quickly transformed the Colts' secondary--not to mention the addition of Lou Anarumo as the defensive coordinator should help elevate that unit as well.
With that said, I do agree with Sullivan that the offensive line does remain a bit of a question mark right now, specifically at right guard. It looks like the plan is to have Matt Goncalves slide over to that spot, but assuming he can make that transition without any sort of competition comes with a risk. If the play of the offensive line unit this season isn't good enough, I'm not sure it matters who the starting quarterback is.
And speaking of the starting quarterback, Sullivan did raise an interesting question when it comes to that competition. I assume the unknown around the quarterback spot for the Colts played into the grade they received.
"There is now a looming quarterback battle with Daniel Jones coming in to compete with Anthony Richardson," Sullivan wrote. "But if Jones actually wins the job, will the Colts truly be happy with that outcome? That means their former No. 4 overall quarterback in Richardson is a lost cause."
