Not her first controversial comment about Jews and Israel
Doesn’t sound anti-Semitic. What did she actually say?
I have a sneaky suspicion that she's not wrong. But she's a Muslim saying it, so OF COURSE she's going to get in hot water for saying it.
She basically said that AIPAC pays GOP representatives and Senators a ton of money to be pro-Israel. Or should that actually be "Anti-Palestinian"?
it's not a good look to keep saying the Jews are buying people off all the time. Even as a Jewish person, I understand being against a lot of Israel's policies, but man... she spits a lot of venom at almost anything Jew-related. Can't deny it rubs me the wrong way.
This story reminds me of my Uncle Leo.
Good to see this dope back in the news.
Why did I post the above?
Because WT is obviously doing their best "other-side" cloning of WP, almost with using the same type of font for their banner, BUT with a HUGE caveat:
WT's article about Ilhan says that Dem leaders approached her and a small snippet of what she did, without the all-important context.
Compare it to this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/nati...-semitism-over-tweets/?utm_term=.a74c34240427
I'm torn on this comment when taken in isolation. I don't like AIPAC's continual funding of candidates (I feel that way about most, if not all, PACs), and I think that's what she was trying to drive at. In the larger context of her tweets, though, it may be just another anti-jewish remark. Just curiously, has she made other anti-semitic remarks? I'm ignorant on this issue.
and of course the GOP are just hypocritical pigs on the issue.
So can one be anti-Bibi/anti-hardline policies and anti-AIPAC and NOT be labeled anti-semetic?
I support Israel's right to exist, and defend themselves, but I also support the need for a Palestinian State, and reject the hardliners.
My feelings as well. I don’t get the uproar over this one tweet. It sounds legitimate to me.
IMO the problem, if you can even call it that, is that she is Muslim. Anything she does that remotely involves Israel or Judaism is going to immediately get labeled as anti-semitic. Her best bet would be to probably not comment on it.
Just like any country, Israel has its warts and there is nothing wrong with criticizing the country’s leadership and questionable actions. I also believe the USA plays a subservient role to Israel for whatever reason.
We should never be in a place where criticing the country means someone is anti-Semitic and that does happen way too often.
However, those criticisms should not be stated using coded language or outright stereotypes that have been used to demonize Jewish people for centuries.
In our country, saying anything critical of Israel is third rail territory that certainly needs to be stopped. We should be free to criticize as long as criticisms are fact based and not bigoted.
