I went to Phoenix last week and I had one of the worst week's possible. I figured I would share the details with you guys, since I need somewhere to vent :)

Saturday - I went to my sister's wedding at the Los Posada hotel in Scottsdale. Everything went perfectly fine. I had to wear a tux, which sucked, but I did look good :)

Sunday morning - woke up early for a huge brunch that we were having at my sister's house. We got food catered from Chompies' and it tasted really good.

Sunday afternoon - went to Castle's & Coasters with my friend and my nephew. We had a lot of fun...until we went on the go karts. We got into a huge accident involving four karts and my friend and I had to go to the hospital (John C. Lincoln). She was taken by ambulance. My nephew was ok.

Sunday night - at the ER getting examined, tested, x-rays and all that fun stuff. My friend had a concussion, bruised sternum and she was tearing tissue in her chest when she was breathing. I just had contusions on my back.

Late Sunday night - finally get home from the hospital. Both of us could barely move. We were just laying on the couch all night. I was hungry, so I ate some leftovers from the brunch.

Monday morning - we both woke up feeling a lot worse. We were supposed to fly back to Oakland at 7:30 a.m., but that wasn't going to happen. She was very sore and I was really dizzy, had pain in my neck, shoulders, and numbness in my right arm. So back to John C. Lincoln hospital we went. My friend got a CT Scan of her brain, which showed swelling. I got a CT Scan of my brain and spine, which didn't show anything abnormal. I was diagnosed with bad whip lash.

Monday afternoon - find out that my step-father got really sick and was throwing up all over the place. We figured he just had a virus or something, but then about 10 other people started calling us saying they were sick.

Late Monday evening - with about 15 people sick now, my friend started to get sick. She was up all night throwing up and had the worst pain she said she's ever had.

Tuesday morning - with friend still extremely sick, back to the ER! This time Thunderbird Samaritan Hospital. She was admitted into the hospital for food poisoning. We had found out that two other people at our brunch were also in the hospital.

Tuesday afternoon - call the Maricopa County Health Board, who tells us that two other groups of people who got food catered from Chompies' were also really sick. They said this was an outbreak....

Rest of Tuesday & Wednesday, my friend is stil in the hospital. The health board calls everyone at our brunch to find out what they ate. We had a total of 25 of the 32 people at the brunch got sick (I was lucky, I got sick, but just a little bit). The test results of the other two people in the hospital showed high levels of Ecoli and Salmonella in their systems.

Thursday - my friend finally feels good enough to leave the hospital. We both go home.

How's that for a weekend?

So other than that....how was the trip?

Seriously....I'm glad everything turned out OK for both of you. I just hurt thinking about the pain your friend must have been going through with the injury...then having to throw up too......aaaarrrrggghhhh

Damn, that sucks Alan, I give ya my deepest sympathy and hope everything is allright soon. That isn't a good thing to have happen to ANYONE.

You were pretty close to where I was, I'm across the street from Thunderbird Samaritan, they are a good bunch of doctors there, so hopefully you were treated very good.

Alan, I'm sure you know by now your story hit the local papers big time this morning.

What do you do for E-coli? Take antibiotics?

Skkorp, which papers? I only saw that one article in the Rep that was published on Saturday.

Our family doctor prescribed Cipro for everyone who had symptoms of food poisoning.

Dam Alan that really sucks. Now I know when I ever get to Arizona that I will never eat at Chompies.

Factoid - I believe Chompies originated in Ocean Twp NJ in the Cobblestone Village shopping center. (I once unsuccessfully pitched them as a client). They specialized in offbeat flavored bagels (like blueberry).

Ironically, they were owned by a couple of Scandinavian-Americans from Minnesota (which therein may lie the lesson).

Thankfully you are all feeling better. Sorry to hear about such a disastrous trip.

Guess I'm crossing Chompies off the places to eat list.

Call me stupid (ok, you don't have to) but Chompies' is still one of my favorite places in Arizona. The food was good going down.
