Jun. 1—WHITEFISH — Big innings by the Cranbook Bandits — six runs in the seventh inning of game one, seven innings to start game two — made it tough on the Glacier Twins, who dropped their season-opening Legion baseball games Saturday.
In the opener, Ty Dupley threw 6 2-3 strong innings and Dallin Rodger scored the tie-breaking run on a wild pitch as Cranbrook (9-13) beat the Twins 9-3.
In the second game, Vinny Fiorentino had a bases-clearing double among two hits and four runs batted in as the Bandits prevailed 13-6.
Pitching was an issue in both big innings. In the seventh inning of game one, after Rodger scored to put the Bandits up 4-3, Hunter Willard walked and the next three batters were hit by pitches. That forced in two runs to make it 6-3, and Michael Clark's two-run single made it 8-3.
Dawson Juntunen had three of the Twins' five hits.
In the first inning of the second game the Bandits then worked Treyson Murphy for four walks and two singles, with most of the action coming with two out.
Juntunen, who threw five solid innings in the opener, allowing two earned runs and striking out two — came in and was greeted with an RBI single by Stellaen Damery and Fiorentino's three-run double.
That put the Bandits up 7-0; they added four runs in the third inning to lead 11-0 before the Twins found some offense. Micheal Miller hit a two-run single in the fifth inning; Cooper Ross hit a two-run inside-the-park home run in the sixth.
