Whittingham would be the game-saving catch of the year. I've heard it all week, but still haven't heard a single credible source saying he was a candidate. It would, however, be very, very Lisa Love to be pushing all those other names while hyper-focusing on Whittingham.

BTW, English went winless because he didn't just change schemes, he ran off players. Like 30 of them between 1st and 2nd season. Said they were lazy and weren't coachable. He probably doesn't go winless if he doesn't do that, but he also doesn't go 6-6 and set up for a run as the MAC favorites next year, either. He didn't just go in to win and run. He went in there and changed the whole culture, including the athletic department. If he came over to your house to clean, he's the guy that would be moving furniture out of the room and polishing the baseboards. His program is ... holistic?

Wilcox, Chryst or English at this point seem to be the only names left. I'm not clear at this point if ASU has actually talked to any of them though.

This needs to get done soon. Apparently UCLA is looking at Mazzone and Broussard for assistants. We lose Broussard and our recruiting class goes in the tank.

It gets better, apparently Wilcox hasn't even been contacted, and this, from ASU's official rivals site: "Gut feeling, ASU ends up with FCS coach few fans know or a Jack Del Rio type. Neither likely puts together a good enough recruiting staff."

Can we please get rid of Crow and our entire athletic department? The level of incompetence shown throughout this process is really unprecedented. We may pine for the days of June Jones when all is said and done.

Jim Tressel! Kidding. ASU must be waiting for something, because there's no excuse for taking this long. Every other school has found their coaches, while ASU is still being used as an extension catalyst for other HC's. Either that, or Lisa Love is getting a brain transplant...

Adam Schefter reported a little while ago that Todd Haley has already emerged as the leading contender for the ASU gig.

Seems like everyone with a twitter account has been mentioning Haley as a possible candidate. I just don't see how he could recruit, however. He has no college coaching experience whatsoever, and I would assume he has little to no recruiting ties on the west coast. Todd Haley is a good coach, he gets the most out of his players, and definitely holds them accountable for mistakes, something ASU hasn't had in a very, very long time. Still, just don't see it happening, although I would certainly approve the hiring if it were true.

Honestly, can anyone see 18 and 19-year-old kids lining up to play for Todd Haley? I just can't see it.

You can't rip players like Haley does nowadays, unless you've been a big time winner like Saban or Les Miles, and Haley hasn't.

Someone had to have known way before this rumor got around that this was a contract grab by Whittingham. Another poor maneuver by ASU here.

Yep, another example of not doing their homework, and getting embarrassed by another coach.

If this decision does end up working out, it will only be on account of total dumb luck.

The facts of the situation should have been self evident even in the most cursory check. I guess whoever is doing the ASU coaching search is being used. Sad. They are degrading my degree.

Further, looks like a headhunter has been brought out, the same fools that tried to sell us June Jones. Just ridiculous.

Lisa Love and Rod Graves should get together and write a book on, "How to get a 6 figure salary while being incompetent". There aren't words in the dictionary to describe how inept ASU is right now, it's getting to the point of pathetic. We have the largest University in the country and we can't even get 1 HC.

Dennis Green?

At this point, with the way this coaching search has been flubbed from the get go, nothing would surprise me.

Is it sad to note, when Doug says "unbelievable," we automatically are programmed to think for the worst?
