Of these 11 open posts, where do you think ASU ranks in desirability? Akron, Arkansas State, Arizona State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Penn State, Southern Miss, Texas A&M, Toledo, and UCLA.

I'd say that behind Texas A&M, UCLA and ASU are right there. Which on its own would be quite a duel for a new HC. But with Love at the helm, ASU is really looking a few steps behind.

Thoughts? If you were a coach, which would be your choice?

Illinois offered Sumlin the same $2.5 million package ASU took off the table from him and got rejected.

:lmao:

If ASU can get their act together this weekend, they can let UCLA and Guerrero regain their status as Dumbest Big Athletic Department In the Country. But I think Illinois almost jumped ahead of UCLA in second place until they saved face with Beckman.

With the recent success of Montana, I hope Pflugrad is seriously considered. He has tons of Pac-10/12 coaching experience and was even a recruiting coordinator at ASU for several years. Not a huge name, but could be a valuable pick up.

Jim L. Mora will be named football coach at UCLA Saturday, a source close to the situation told ESPNLosAngeles.com.

Why haven't I heard anything about the Penn State job? Too much other stuff going on?
Supposedly Dan Mullen from Miss St. is/has interviewed for the job and is their #1 choice. I don't know why any legit HC candidate would want to walk into that mess.

Maybe they could wait on Chip Kelly :D. I hear he's going to be in a real mess up there in the near future.

From the oustide looking in, I would think ASU would be a great job. I don't know what kind of facilities they have but they have everything else you could want, great weather, great area, solid fan base, big conference, past success. It should be one of more desirable jobs out there.

Apparently, Chryst is also in the running for the Kansas job.

What kind of offense does Chryst run @ Wisconsin?

As North Carolina's nabbing of Fedora demonstrates, these vacancies are filling up, ASU better move its collective arse and get a coach!

Charlie Weiss is the new coach at Kansas. With UCLA and Texas A&M supposedly ready to hire their coach, ASU needs to get a coach this weekend because they are behind the other teams in recruiting.

I'm not worried. We're a women's soccer school. Football isn't a priority. Neither is making money.

Paul Calvisi Update:

ASU Update: Sources tell me that current HC list includes: Calhoun, Wilcox, Helfrich, English (Note: Jim Leavitt no longer on list)
My best guess is either Wilcox, or Helfrich.

I don't have favorites any more because this hire has soured me. I could be happy with either but going with a young defensive mind like Wilcox intrigues me. I still have nightmares about the Sun Devils secondary.

Boosters have been very specific about getting a HC that will keep the team disciplined. Defensive coaches usually have more disciplined teams, so I'm assuming Wilcox is probably at the top of the list, for that reason. Plus, he is originally from the Pac-10, so he has probably been waiting for an opportunity like this.

I just don't get the Wilcox obsession ,why is he any better than English? If this is the road we're going down, just go with English, he's hungry for the job and at least has some head coaching experience, whether you hold his record against him or not you have to assume he's learned things from that experience.

I think his record with EM has put a red flag on him. English went winless with EM his 1st year, which was the 1st time in 20+ years they didn't win a game, and although they have improved from that, I think ASU is extremely cautious. Wilcox, on the other hand, has been successful where ever he goes. Granted he's never been a HC, but his team's defense has always improved once he took over.

He had to knock out the junk to rebuild from scratch. I just think its odd to take a risk on someone who's never been a Head Coach when you have someone dying for the job who's been a Head Coach and has built up the facilities and program at probably the worst job in the country.

It sounds like ASU is afraid to pick someone that isn't the sexy pick and if they go after English, I think that they would be concerned that his record would be used to criticize the pick. But who knows what is going on with this search. Personally, I like English.

Ding Ding Ding!

Their number one priority seems to be who can they get that will sell the most tickets by August. I don't think they've put much thought into what happens after that.

Lots of chatter going on about Wittingham from Utah. Someone said Love was in Salt Lake City today.

I don't think he ends up at Penn St. It's a terrible situation to go into. Plus, he's a west coast guy, he's Mormon and we have a big Mormon population. Not so much in Penn.
